What Is The Official Status of Deception?

In fact, if BioWare hired Nylund the series might have hope.
.... More than you know.
But Nylund is a Microsoft guy so that probably won't happen.

Yeah. I said it. Deal with it.
BioWare doesn't care about Deception. BioWare lies all the time, this is no different.
It's the truth.
Lets just hope Walters can figure out his own lore for the next game, lol.
"lies all the time" is just hyperbole. Aside from this novel rewrite and ME3's ending (which depending on how you look at the Extended Cut, it is not a complete lie anymore. Afterall, the endings have the most differences in the trilogy when compared to ME1's "no matter what you do, Shepard defeats Sovereign" or 2's "no matter what you do, Shepard defeats the collectors".), they hardly lie all the time. But yes, you are spot on regarding Bioware caring about Deception. It isn't cheap to completely rewrite a novel, especially considering how they'd likely never see much money from novel sales to recoup. It isn't like patching a videogame where you just fix the issue and upload it.
People like to treat Walters like a scapegoat, but people always forget the great characters he wrote in Mass Effect 2.

I don't. I've said Walters is a very good character writer.
He is not a lead writer. Not at all.
Hudson should have found a way to retain Drew. K. But I suspect da money wasn't up to par.
I thought Lead writer should have gone to Patrick Weekes or Dombrow.
But it pay's to be Hudson's little pet. So Super Mac it was.

I didn't understand why everyone hated her so much before that, I mean her Halo books were bad, but not anything truly rabies inspiring...
Then came the mandalorians, I liked them before that:crying:

What evidence was there at the time of ME2 that those guys were better lead writers than Mac? This is only a possible analysis retrospectively.

Okay, I apologize then.
I think I'd have to agree that he shouldn't be a lead writer though. I know he doesn't have that title in the next game, but that vague title he has now (can't remember what it was) could mean anything

I agree that Walters is probably one of the better character writers on the dev team. He doesn't seem to do as well beyond that however, and I do wonder if he might have been promoted beyond his ability.
It might sound odd to say that someone performing well at one level would be unqualified for a promotion, but in military history you see that often. An officer might perform superbly at the regimental or divisional level for example, but when placed in command of a corps or an army, they perform poorly.

Legally? Yes, but it's not great quality. The Limited Edition DVD releases of the three films have the OOT cuts thrown in on a bonus disc, but they weren't remastered, taken directly from the old Laserdiscs.

Nylund is employed by Microsoft Game studios. He only writes for Microsoft.
He does have his own novels-which are pretty good, like Signal to Noise and Noise Shattered.
But he only writes FOR Microsoft Game studios. He's attatched to Halo pretty tightly, I'd be surprised if he were to ever work on another Video Game property.

If Bioware were to ever again look for an outside writer to handle a Mass Effect novel, I think Timothy Zahn might be a good choice. He's got a Sci Fi background, and Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command are generally regarded by fans as being among the best of all the Star Wars EU (expanded universe) novels.
Yeah. Zahn would be a solid choice. But.... Drew K. Nuff said.
BioWare and Overlord Hudson.. Y u no get Drew K. 2 rite ur gamez?!?!

Are the foundation comics really that screwy?
I've only read 1 which is about Rasa AKA Mya Brook's origins. I thought it was alright, but I didn't really care about the character. I read the 2nd cause of Wrex... Well, more Mya and Leng... so weak.
The last one I read was 3 which was Ash's story of Eden Prime. I thought it was pretty pointless and I was like. "Gee, where have I seen this before".... Oh right, I know.. Mass Effect 1.
It also makes Cerberus appear to be directly involved with everything happening in Mass Effect, like they're some sort of super group that operates in all these places, lol.
Cerberus in ME1 was a splinter group an alliance black ops, they had some power and pull, but really EXOGENI was the real bad one.
But I guess not, cause now it's Super Mac's series... Uggghh.

To be fair I don't think Walters had anything to do with Deception. It was written by William C. Dietz, a Sci Fi writer with no previous connection to Bioware or Mass Effect.
That isn't to say that Bioware isn't to blame for Deception however, just that after ME3 Walters is all too often unfairly blamed for things he had little or nothing to do with it.
I also think Drew is highly overrated.
Now Karen traviss on the other hand...................... ugh. She should just stay away from sci fi and defo stay away from Halo.
Traviss is a horrendous writer. Worst I've read in a long time.
