@Zherran
Scars! (if you are handy with the toolset, gurr)

@Thor, Laure
More Hair! (no toolset needed, yay)
http://www.dragonage...file.php?id=392
recently added the hair styles from the Don't Worry Be Hairy mod and the concept hair for Alistair for a male PC (Human and Elf so far, did not see if could be on a Dwarf) and Morrigains hair. Get great hair colors with Pineappletree Mod. ( If you use the pineapple mod and the more hair mod, get the hair update to adjust the pineapple mod so everything works in harmony)

this one helped me from being distracted by the brown teeth in game
http://social.bioware.com/project/580/

And Pineappletree's Virbrant Colors
(it also adds some more skin tones as well as eye and hair colors)

i have to admit, i was upset with the hair choices when i first bought this game, but thanks to the more hairstyles mod, i now have a decent haircut for my male human i am happy with [see avatar]. i havent tried making a female character yet so i cant really comment on those. also, i dont mind clipping, ppl should make more long hair mods as i would use them

I wouldn't say making an attractive female is that difficult. In my opinion, the true difficulty lies in making distinct characters -- looking around the site, many avatars feature attractive characters, but most share a degree of sameness.

This is true.

I'm part of the big elfy ear appreciation society, the first thing I did when I learned to use the toolset was make my mage's ears larger and rotated out. I don't need them to be "warcraft" big, but I like the aesthetics of the "typical" elven look, which DA elves don't have enough of, IMO.

Obviously, from the various comments, I have WoW to blame for this.  Image IPB  I don't think of the fairy-type elves as "typical", given my Tolkien conception of elves, so I for one am glad that the game minimize that in character creation.  To my mind, the more subtle differences also emphasize the injustice of elves being treated as a different species from humans.  I understand, of course, that each person has their own conception and taste.
(Edit:  I just did an image search for WoW elves... holy crap, that is... weird.  No more complaints about elven big ears in DA:O!)

Yeah, I dislike the elephant eared elves too.  I'd guess they come from certain graphic novels and then later, games like WoW.  I also prefer my elf to be a bit taller than a human, but then Tolkien's works were the first fantasy novels I read as a child.  Oh, and BTW, in response to an earlier fear you voiced, your avatar looks pretty.

Back on to the main topic, I don't think it's difficult to make an attractive female in this game.  I agree with what others have said about most of the good looking configurations do seem awfully similar.  I wish there were more options in the game for hair/skin/eye colors and hair styles, but thankfully there are mods for us PC users.

Actually, I always found it harder to make an attractive male.  Most of my results that I think look good during character creation, end up looking too feminine once I start playing the game.  Unless I add a beard or stubble.  But the beards make the faces stuck with funny looking cheeks, and the stubble just looks ridiculous in most close ups.

I don't get this...

You look at the back of their head 99% of the time... and they are wearing helmets...

99% of the dialogs you rarely see your characters face at all.

Lol. I will admit some hairstyles are okay, but not compared to the modded PC ones. Damn. I wish they would just make an update to where we got new hairstyles.

The modded characters look a little too 'Gossip Girls' for me, and like they have excellent cosmetic surgeons. ;) I always use one of two hairstyles, anyway, as I figure these folks are on the battlefield fighting darkspawn. The only hair concern is keeping it out of the way, and out of your face.

Thank you.  Image IPB  Like I said, I was going for a "classic" Fereldan look, not trying to make her distinctive, with some rosy cheeks for all that time spent out in the cold riding and shooting.  She has the ponytail hairstyle such as Ser Cauthrien wears.  It would have been fun to have been able to dress up for the post-coronation.  I did save a Noble Clothing and had her wear it for that bit, but the warrior hair obviously had to stay.

Personally I minimize the makeup on my characters and make the colors natural, because I just can't see the hero of Ferelden dragging a makeup kit around the countryside while fighting darkspawn.  Maybe Morrigan has magical makeup or something.

Absolutely, same here (no makeup whatsoever)! I for one am perfectly content with the standard character generator and its limitations. Most of the modded characters I have seen look a tad too done up and "plasticky" for my tastes; I can't image their perfectly coiffed and made up appearances would withstand the tribulations of the Grey Warden lifestyle.

While I see the point of the Warrior or Rogue being more hands on and so wouldn't want hair in the face and that is does seem out of place to be lugging around a makeup kit, the hair and the makeup thing seems to fit better with a Mage. They battle at a distance and cast their spells and after the fight is over they are the only ones not covered in blood! If any of them are going to be prissy I think it is a Mage. My warrior and rogue I created with minimal hair and makeup but it seemed appropriate for my Mage to have more (to match those gold trimmed robes).

I can see more of that with a mage, but they're still on the road, in dungeons, and generally living a hard life. It's difficult to see that kind of primping being a priority, or even possible.
