This is a collection of maps, which are PC sized and PC usable. With version 2 there are now a total of 138 such maps. This is made up of 127 pre-defined maps and 11 customisable ones (last version had 71 pre-defined maps and 1 customisable one). Each one consists of a placeable, a wall mountable placeable, an (inventory) item and a visual effect (last version did not have the wall mountable placeable).
In practice this means that a PC can obtain them from all the usual places. If the map is on the ground they will see a large map that they can pick up by clicking on it. If the map is on the wall they will see a reduced size version of the normal placeable that they can get by clicking on it. If the map is in a container they will see the usual, much reduced in size, inventory image. If they “use” a map while it is in their inventory a visual representation of the map will hover in the air next to them for a period of 20 seconds. If they remove a map from their inventory what happens depends on where they remove it to. If it is dropped on the ground, the large map will appear at their feet. Placing it into a container will result in the usual small image appearing in the inventory of the container. Unfortunately maps cannot be placed onto walls except at design time in the toolset. This was a design decision that I took in order to maintain backwards compatibility with previous versions and to keep things simple.
With this version there are 5 starter files for the customisable maps, 4 pdf documents, 4 erfs, 3 haks and 5 modules. Because of the number of files in this package they are grouped into separate folders within the 7z. The modules consist of 4 different starter mods (for new projects) and a catalogue module. The erfs are there for updating existing projects. The documents consist of a readme, a catalogue, a set of notes for builders and a tutorial on how to use this package for making custom maps. The starter files for customisable maps are there to get you started. Finally the haks consist of a top hak, the main hak and a hak of 10 blank customisable maps. By doing it this way it is no longer necessary to use the main hak if all you want are your own custom maps. As with my precious releases, you can use any of my haks together but the top hak makes this even easier. The top hak virtually eliminates any worries about the order that the haks are loaded in. It is my intention to release a new top hak whenever I release any new custom content.
The increased number of customisable maps now introduces the possibility for people other than me to make a contribution to this package. All you need to do is to create a map that is 256x256 pixels in size (including transparent pixels if necessary, just make the image 256 in one direction, vertically or horizontally). In fact it doesn't even have to be a map. It could be a star chart/constellation chart for example. It could even be a poster with readable words if that is what you want. All it needs is to be something that you think others would want to share. If you make one or more, just contact me either on here or the bsn and I'll see about getting it up on this web page. I won't be posting every one as I receive them, rather I'll try and package them in batches of 10 (to coincide with the number of maps in the extras hak).
Please note that all comments are greatfully recieved, either on the download page or here in this thread.
Hope some of you find this of use. Enjoy.
