I have been thinking about this for a while and I was thinking what would you want to be in the SP?

What race would you want to be and why?  I am going to assume that the council races will be playable in NME but give me your thoughts on the matter.

would you want to be a; pirate, soldier, mercenarie, nobody, SPECTRE (again), any combination of those, or your own ideas?

Also what kind of ship would you like? tell me size, species design, name, crew, and anything else you want to share.

I for one woould like to be able to choose a path maybe that be to join
the SPECTREs ala Shep or maybe decide that I want to be a mercenarie and
work for my own paycheck.  We have a huge lore when it comes to ships as well and I for one would love to see maybe  a small cruiser size vessel that is customizable to a degree.  a Cruiser though a larger ship than the normandy wouldn't be game breaking as we already have the kodiak or a craft similar that would get us planet side ala Mass Effect 2 and 3 in many cases.  As for what race I would like to be, I am a huge fan of the turians and would love to play as them because of there strong military background and there sence of order.

A nobody, perhaps a scavenger with a little cargo vessel.

Do it like the Elder Scrolls, start with a blank slate, and in prison. There's no better starting point for a hero's journey than a prison.

And I would like the chance to become a villain.

Sounds like a mix between KOTOR, Skyrim, and ME could be a very interesting story

A resourceful "chaotic neutral" that doesn't answer to anyone. I hate the chain of command, the Alliance crap, going back n forth on Hackett's orders.

Someone that has his own goals independent of every other "player" in the story. something like ME2, but with NO Illusive Man pulling the strings and giving you any sort of direction.

This guy wouldn't need to be a Spectre, which would make things more challenging and more interesting as opposed to "look at me I'm a Spectre and you can't touch me", especially the role-playing aspect. Plus this way you sever the connection to the Council and ultimately answering to & being held accountable by them, like Saren.

Start with solitude, adversity and mystery.

When I first played Oblivion, which was my entry into the Elder Scrolls, I was throroughly amazed at the moment when I emerged out of the sewers.

You find yourself alone at the mercy of a world which you know nothing about. A scoundrel in rags, sent on an errand upon which depends the fate of an Empire. It's was a profound feeling.

KotOR is very much alike.

PS: What are those squiggles in your signature?

yea I had the same feeling when coming out of the sewers in Oblivion. The squiggles are a direct representation of my N7HQ stats the circles are completion stats for weapons, characters, gadgets, equipment, and everything.

On topic I am editing the OP to add racial choice as the thread got locked.

You could add a structured story by making your character an enemy of a nefarious group that might think you know something or got somthing.
It could turn out that your character knew nothing but got forced to try and survive through ordeals initiated by this group.

(insert race) spy

Perhaps your background is a Shadow Broker agent, a SPECTRE, STG, or any other black ops type groups found in ME.

Make a class that focuses on the skills of an undercover operative. Bring back social skills(charm, intimidate) and make it possible for my morally ambiguous/ruthless character to be a charming bastard instead of only a douche.
Interrogation skill, possibly as part of the intimidate/charm tree.

Perception could also be a useful skill. It'd be easy to incorporate, a character with a high enough perception will have additional environment interactions available to them to examine.

Remember your lies.
I think an interesting part of that character would be the lies they have to tell. Having to remember what cover/lie you told to a particular NPC could get interesting. So long as there's something in your journal to refresh your memory at times, that is.

Expand the Interrupt system
Make the interrupt system useful as more than a paragon/renegade mechanic. Perhaps you have a tense moment and you consider pulling your gun. Perhaps you're interrogating a subject and they show a tell, you push the subject.

I've been wanting a good spy rpg for years, doing so in the ME universe I love would be awesome.

A SPECTRE. Either Human, Asari or Turian.

But make the player feel like one. Don't just use it as a convenient excuse to allow the player access to things.

Agreed with the above. It would be awesome to do some real actual Spectre stuff, as in working outside the law for the glory of the Citadel Council on several missions that needn't necessarily be involved with the main quest itself.

Although I must say, it also sounds interesting to have a Elder Scrolls/Fallout style beginning, in which you have a clean slate to begin with and just find your own path. I mean, Mass Effect is already well-known for its choice-based gameplay, imagine the possibilities of this if you start from nothing and build up your own reputation from scratch.

Regarding the ships: I'm not entirely sure. I think the Frigate suits me just fine: fast, stealthily and agile, but more than able to stand in the line of battle and take some damage. Maybe a Cruiser would be okay as well, but I wouldn't go bigger than that.

And about species: I agree with the OP on that. If I have to choose one alien species I'd really love to be able to play as, it'll definitely be Turian.

i am personally going to go the human route, and i think it would be interesting to NOT be a spectre or at least have bioware approach the spectre thing from a different point of view. maybe have a spectre that isn't so darn famous and one who likes to keep a low profile. you don't always use your spectre status as a way to get out of problems and its a last resort. so maybe a covert soldier type of thing, or maybe that could just exist as a different way to approach problems

but don't go all out spy, i don't really like that type of game and i would feel extremely limited by having to play a spy in the mass effect universe

as far as ship goes...im not really sure. i was perfectly happy with the Normandy, i don't think you would want to go any smaller, and im not sure it would be practical to go any bigger, but im open to suggestions as long as its cool and i can talk to all my squadmates while im on it

This is basically summarization of the plot of Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick obscura.

I'd like to play as a Geth. though it would be cool if you started out as a privateer (gives some flexability and the possiblity of letting us pick our charater's race, even if they have a pair of player voices modified the have the speech effects of the different races)

A human who is NOT a Marine, nor part of any Armed Forces.

Paramilitary is fine however.

that would suck and would be too similar to ME2, Shepard more or less being trapped by the Illusive Man and the Collector threat.

I guess at some point I'd like the character to become a spectre, though as for just starting out, I'd like a multiple choice character start up. like merc, civilian, soldier, raider/pirate, etc. don't know how doable that would be though.

Actually I like this idea a lot kinda like the origin stories from Dragon Age.  And a bit like ME1 with the choices.  I wouldn't mind seeing this in game and would provide a lot of replayability if your "origin" has bearing on the game like Earther, Spacer, or colonist did in ME1.

I wouldn't mind being a prisoner but not quite so keen on the complete blank slate. Even in the walking dead there were some clues as to why you had been sent to prison and I believe that is better. Would prefer a wrongly condemned or political prisoner scenerio and even like to play it out as a prelude.

no, please don't mix it with TES - that makes for a fine open world game with less story (sorry, but the story of most TES-Games is just BORING...so are most games IMHO, i mean yeah you can do a lot of things, but without some driving force (like a really good story) it just feels kind of empty and a total waste of time (i thought Skyrim was boring BTW))

as for what i want to be? - someone who has CHOICES (real ones, not all of those taken back ones from ME - hell, the only real choice in the game is IMHO: deciding who survives Virmire -.-)

greetings LAX

a think a spacer, ex-military war hero, turned pirate might be amusing to play. wonder what the character's complete backstory would read like for such a build.

so in other words, a male version of Jack. tsk tsk tsk you guys aren't creative at all, you're still mentally bound to the same limitations of the trilogy. spacer, war hero, spectre AGAIN........can't you come up with something original? or at least original to the ME universe?

A Geth tech support guy, specialised at support for the MMO Galaxy of Fantasy.
One day that seems like any other some terrorists performs some hind of heist or terrorist attack in which this poor civilian becomes a target for this group simply forbeinv at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Or perhaps from the players perspective the right place.
Personaly, I hope we get a few different playable species.

Not playing a Council species might help as you arn't taken quite as seriously by the establishment.

Or maybe a Geth nanny would be more unique. Citadel daycare.

A human and some kind of space pirate, maybe someone working for Aria this should be a good idea with Aria as a squademate.
