I admit I am a HUGE fan of Alistair... Image IPBImage IPB he is one of the most rememerable (don't think that's a word) character I have played...   and I don't think I am his only fan

I am female and my characters are all female...  and since this is a Fantasy game..  it would be nice to have the romance like we had in DA:O  ...  a character we can really care about ..  Alistair was that for me in all the different ways I played him Image IPB
So I am looking forward to great characters and a great romance as well Image IPB

We can only hope. But I do not want an Alistair Clone. I want to date the guy that used to pick on Alistair on the playground.

Bold.

You meant memorable. Now when you say "played" do you mean you tricked him, or you controlled him in combat or moved him around?

Anyway, define "great." Not everyone has the same opinions on Alistair, nor does everyone like romancing humans.

There's a good chance Varric will be romance-capable, since I don't think BioWare would give us a companion in two games, and not make them a possible LI... especially someone as popular as Varric.

As it is highly depending of your own preference, so, may be, may be not.

What seems to be awesome romance for some players is awefull for otherx, and vice versa.

I adored the Alistair romance arc and have a game or two going in DAO that are or will be on it. I have kind of reached the point now where I want to see some new personalities. Perhaps the next hot companion will be witty, charming, have no angst issues, have a wonderful voice actor that makes you want to replay his dialogue over and over, have a comprehensively written character that seems to give approval no matter what actions the PC makes and is the only companion in the game that does not have a single flirt dialogue option.

Varric allegedly is still in love with Bianca. So it may not be possible to romance him.But we'll see.My femInquisitor isn't attracted to male dwarfs.

There may be a warden in the party and yes for the doubters that hasn't been confirmed yet.
But he may be the OPs type, if he is in the game as a party member.

Personally, I prefer romances that are interesting and/or develop a character further. (The fact Cullen is neither is a fantastic reason why he shouldn't be a companion, let alone romanceable.) For that reason, I always felt Alistair was a little dull. Leliana was the best romance, in my opinion, closely followed by Zevran. In both cases, you really felt like a part of their story and part of what drove their development.

TL;DR Great is subjective. I thought Alistair was the most uninspiring and straightforwards of the romances.

Personally Zevran is my favorite romancable NPC, he's a bit Cliche but I still really like the way the romance unfolds as time goes on/certain events happen. It felt interesting and fun.i sure do hope the mature looking beardy warden guy is romancable and interesting. I want the romances in Inquisition to be interesting, well paced according to character, and involved. But everyone has their preferences so it's up to the player I guess

I quite like Alistair, he's the only romanced companion who would mercilessly dump a protagonist if made a king. He also calls his wife old ball and chains, very realistic!

There's a certain alchemy to making truly memorable characters that's hard to pinpoint. You can set out to write a character that you're sure the fans will love and the collective reaction is 'Meh.' Meanwhile, some minor NPC who you thought was an unlikeable sod has become an audience darling.

I'm sure that Bioware never sets out to write a bad romance, but it's impossible to say whether you'll like them as much as Alistair.

You mean like the Adoring Fan from The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion?

I liked the Alistair romance and he's my Warden's LI in most my playthroughs. He's just a little too boyish for my taste, though. For DA:I I intend to make Varric forget about Bianca. If that's not possible I hope that the LI we get is one that feels more mature than Alistair.

So long as I get a choice of someone who does not hate a whole group of people (hates all mages or templars), has a warped spirit/demon in them (making it a really weird three-way), might give me an STD if there are no mage healers around and/or has some weird, dangerous artifact that can suck your soul out in the bedroom I'll be happy.

I would be happy if the LI are more like DAO and not like DA2 , so many good LI in DAO and so many bad ones in DA2 .

Well, here's to hoping for a good romance arc =)

And I hope the humans won't get an ouchy surprise somewhere along the road this time (somewhere from being a mistress so you can keep your guy if you're not from the 'proper' lineage, taking the dark ritual for that happily ever after or boyfriend became a terorist no matter what you say or do) .. I could only hope, LoL. It's pretty much up to the writter on how they're going to write.

As for my preferences, I'd prefer a 'regular' and 'stable' guy (already had my share of 'dramatic relationships' in the past, thank God it's over. Don't want it again, even in my games). Some might say they're the boring type, but then again it's different strokes for different folks and I wouldn't dream of telling them that they have the wrong taste ever.

Alistair is a rich white cishet male brimming with privilege and first world belly aching.

Tell me OP, how does it feel to be a perpetrator of Patriarchal oppression?

Because ****ing everyone is for weaboo perverts looking for ego stroking. Romancing everyone in bond girl esque plots on the other hand is transcendent rpg storytelling.

No romances other than with a stone golem.
