Maybe it's just me, but I didn't really find the in-game appearance of any of the LI's particuarly attractive. They weren't unnattractive per se, but they looked like wax sculptures. Maybe this will be different with frostbite, as I think both Varric and Cassandra look amazing so far.

I would say Fenris was one of the better looking charcters, but to be honest that's got more to do with fanart than his in-game appearance. Same with Isabela.

As for a lot of people prefering DA:O's LI,'s, I kind of agree, though I think it's less about the characters themselves and more about the increased amount  of interaction and dialogue we had with our companions in Origins.

Fair enough I will never understand the tali love so I can see where you're coming from.

I reached my opinion from in game more than fanart on the looks.

I'm not a girl, I'm a guy, so I'm just going to add a male perspective in here.

....

If girl's get a guy like Alistair, we should get another character like Morrigan since we know Morrigan won't be romanceable in Inquisition!

....not exactly the same as Morrigan. She's one of a kind.  But strong-willed and intelligent apostate, that I can go for.

I'll keep this simple and just say yes. Alistair is a great combination of serious, charming, humorous and passionate for me. He's been my favorite romance in the series thus far.

The only two companions throughout the series I haven't romanced are Morrigan and Merill. I usually only play female Wardens (and Morrigan's personality is a little too prickly for me) and Merill brings out the "big sister" in me. I see her more as a friend and a sister-type to be protected rather than a lover. That's just my view though.

Merril brings out the "please stop" in me.  Staff of Parlathon through the chest type mode.

See, this is there my "Fanboyism" comment comes into play.

I think Anders is hot too...:(

Although Fenris was freaking gorgeous...

I prefer Alistair to Zevran, although Zev's voice sometimes makes me question that..
No, I must.. r-resist the accent.
The fact that I like Elves really doesn't help in this on-going cuffuffle..
Nah, Alistair's character is more my type, and he is half-Elven so he is basically an Elf. :)

It's a weird thing ... in RPGs, we can fail at fighting ogres, trying to win nobles over to our side, or at saving a town from destruction.

But now ... that system dare not let anybody fail at romance. And yes, I know, you can always flip to the Romance Guide section they'll put back in the Prima books ... but at least the chance of failing is still there.

Any other accomplishment feels hollow without the chance of failing, right?

People talk about amazing abilities in the RPG world. I bet players sure wish they had Hawke's amazing powers of, once he fell romantically for one of his companions, never being able to say the wrong thing to them

So once again --- yeah, fine, I agree, have it once to prevent "ninjamancing" but ... stop holding our hands once things start. That is far more honest to true life

I have never romanced Allistair so I have no opinion on that point. Me personally would prefer a romance along the lines of Morrigan or Jack from ME. A mysterious type with a hot temper. Cassandra sort of meet this description, so I may be lucky ;)

No it is not. The heart Icon was not an 'i win bottom'. It existed with Aveline and Varric and didn't let you "win" there.

Also if you was diplomatic Anders hit on you, which mean that the npc could have atttraction towards the pc without the pc wanting to.

But in real life I bloody know if I am flirting with someone, so if the computer has decided that this line means that my character is flirting with another character, I as a player need to know that. The writers can decide if the NPC's understand/misunderstand some of my other lines or even the flirt lines, but I as a player need to know that the computer doesn't flag 'I like pretty shoes too' as the PC being interested in the NPC.

You might know when you are flirting IRL, but the object of your desire might not - and vice-versa (they think you're flirting when you're not).  I find dialogue without the symbols to be a much better model of real life conversations.

At least, it would be if the player could choose the actual content of what the protag will say...

LOL Yes, this. I never had the Leliana problem, but in ME2 both Jack and Tali thought my Shepard wanted them... just because he was nice to them. :? A misunderstanding by the NPC isn't a problem (I love that Anders falls for Hawke... although I don't love the only option we're given for letting him down; it's so rude); but it's when the game assumes my character returns his/her interest and has entered into a romance...... unbeknownst to me, the player!!

And yes, if you want to flirt in real life (since everyone seems so keen on making this and this only "realistic") then you FLIRT. It's the real life version of choosing the <3 icon. Maybe the flirt doesn't work. Maybe it does.

FYI In DA2 you could be a jerk and the <3 never appears.

DA2 had both of these.

You flirt, but NPC doesn't realize it: Aveline and Varric.
You're not flirting, but the NPC thinks you are: Anders.

What made Alistair great is that he wasn't written just for romance.

You couldn't 'win' because they were not meant to be romanceable.

It's amazing, people don't want their hands held by the game went it comes to combat, but they sure want their hands held by the game when it comes to social interaction.

Ambiguity's part of life, especially when it comes to romance, this may be the one place where I like least seeing it removed.

What can I say, I will live with the dialogue wheel, just don't ask me to love it.
