I don't smoke but I drink once in a while, but this is something that would be fun to see implemented. Gives me a reason to make a raging alcoholic dwarf.

i dont have an issue with it being in game. as long as the game has an M rating, why not have it in.

as for why smoking is "looked down upon in today's society"... well i can only speak for myself, but i personally dont care for it because it stinks up your clothes, can turn your walls and teeth yellow, leads to health problems, and affects people other than the ones doing the smoking..

people can argue whether second hand smoking is actually an issue health wise or not.. but for me, i grew up in a family of smokers and i found the odor to be terrible and the environment to be very unpleasant. still do to this day. it should also be noted that i didnt have much choice growing up whether to be in that environment or not, so its not like i could get away from it.

also, maybe it was just coincidence.. but i didnt seem to get sick as much once i moved out of the house and was no longer constantly around an environment with a lot of smokers.

regardless though, i have no issue with this being in game, as long as their is an appropriate rating.

None of my characters ever drank or smoked, not even in Mass Effect. Its just my mindset of being focus at all time.

I wonder if the engine could manage a decent representation of a smokey fug developing in a room. Also, smoke rings.

Drinking should blur the screen and cause a control delay. Smoking should reduce health and stamina and be considered a permanent injury. Attempting to stop either should also cause an injury (withdrawal).

OK, surgeon general.:P
Well I think they should have benefits as well.  Like metal gear smoking should give the ability to make your hands steady (make archers miss less).

Alcohol should make your characters immune to fear and be able to take more punishment.

i dont agree becouse smoking with pipe is mutch safer than with cigaretes
becouse if pipe is long enouth it wont let so mutch smoke to your mouth as cigarete filters do
if you wonder about the lenght then from mouth to your hearth is enouth
but i agree with alcohol effect

Imagine your LI starts a convo when you get back to camp with a blurry screen. You have to guess which options to choose, The game blanks out the responses. You have no idea what happens. In the morning you discover you have lost 50 influence and need to buy her gifts to get it back to normal. How is that not fun?! Posted Image

I want to be able to go up to an Archdemon and use level 5 speechcraft to say "yo yo mang les light up a doobie ye?" and he'd be like "oh fo sho bro" then we'd get high and hotbox the Deep Roads so all the Darkspawn get stoned and then there's no more war, just Bob Marley and peace.

Just my theory.

I like the idea. It should ideally be optional but I'm all for more roleplaying options.

I don't see the point of having our characters smoking and drinking. After all, drinking was pretty boring in DA2. I'd rather the devs focused their time and energy on something more productive. If you want your characters to drink and smoke, use your imagination.

I want the ability to drink myself into an emotional stupor after some traumatic event and have my companions need to scrape me off the floor while I sob big sloppy tears all over them. I am not even joking :(

Now I have the mental image of Varric and Cassandra hauling a Qunari Inquisitor up fom his foetal position on the floor as he rambles incoherently about everything that sucks and plaintively whines for more ale.

Nah would be cool to sit in the fort tavern and "Stratigise with my troops" the smokeing and drinking would be fairly acurate if implemented right this is some thing Skyrim failed at i once stored 1000 bottles of wine mead ect and drank the lot... with no side effects. in Fallout i downed one bottle of wine by acident and now im a raging alcoholic. im hard pressed to rind a game that implements it well other than GTA or Saints Row.

Would love to have an inquisitor who always has a cigar in his/her mouth, even when smacking down the baddies.

Think Dirty Harry in heavy armor.
