DLC included, over the course of this trilogy we get to meet 19 Squadmates. That's right, NINETEEN.

Mass Effect 1:

Garrus
Tali*
Liara
Kaidan*
Ashley*
Wrex*

Mass Effect 2:

Jacob
Miranda*
Thane*
Samara*
Grunt*
Zaeed*
Kasumi
Legion*
Mordin*
Jack

Mass Effect 3:

James
EDI
Javik

The names marked with an asterisk are those squadmates who can potentially die in certain missions with the exception of Mass Effect 2's suicide mission, where as we all know, everyone can die.

So, technically Mass Effect is a brutal game. You can lose 11 out of 19 squadmates (more if you include the suicide mission).

At the same time, out of these 11 potential non-suicide-mission deaths, you can save 7 squad members through your actions, i.e. the majority.

Thats why I love Bioware. Your actions make the difference between a disaster and a "No one gets left behind" happy ending outcome.

Why am I thinking about all this? Because initially after finishing Mass Effect 3 I thought "huh, nobody really died, thus game kinda sucked in that it was easier than I thought" but then I realized the weight of my actions in ME1 and ME2 had carried over and helped my ME3 playthrough.

So yeah, just fot sh*ts and giggles, making an ultimate FAIL playthrough of the ME series would be killing off Wrex and Kaidan in ME1, then doing either Thane OR Legion OR Mordin's loyalty mission and no one else's and not buying any ship upgrades in ME2 and taking Garrus and Thane/Legion/Mordin in ME2's final run so everyone dies except you and Thane/Mordin/Legion. Then in Mass Effect 3, your actions can kill off all remaining squadmates with the exception of Liara, EDI and James (Javik vows to commit suicide if you make him look at his memory shard), and then pick destroy ending so EDI gets killed, leaving you only with Liara and James, i.e. 2 out of 19 squad mates in the trilogy.

Ouch, Bioware.

Sorry, I already did all of that as mentioned in one of my recent threads.... If you want to see the wall of names, you must get a low-medium EMS Destroy ending, but Javik cannot die if you plan on killing Liara and James.

I've argued in another thread that a failShep in ME2 makes more sense in ME3 than a successful one due to the crap we're forced to work with. It's not a pretty sight. But it is more "realistic", for what that's worth.

I played so much MP that it's impossible for me to have low EMS, which kinda sucks since that's what I'd do if I ever played ME3 again.

I had the wall completely filled with names and there were 4 names that didn't make it on the wall. That scene with the wall is 3 short of being filled.

I have to admit it is funny watching the floating nameplate

Non-loyal Kasumi is arguably faking her death in ME3 to get away from both Jondum and Shepard, but practically it's the same as really dying.

In response to the OP:

Sabotaging the Genophage and having to kill Wrex in ME3 is way more fail than killing him in ME1.

I hate how it doesn't matter all that much who's dead or not. If they "can" die at all, then they will be treated as dead.. even if they are alive. They base the general mood of ME3 as if Shep has dealt with a lot of these deaths, and now only has a core group of best buddies around. Nobody else matters.

To me, the cameos are worse to deal with than Dragon Age 2, which is full of cameos too. At least Hawke was a completely different character than the Warden. All of the cameos were strangers to Hawke, so it doesn't have the same effect.
