Fresh blood is good, but Gold and Platinum are not starting difficulties. It would be phenomenal,if rookies would play Bronze and Silver for at least few hours,so they could get basic understanding of the game.
Grizzled veterans can carry 3 new players on Gold without much problem, but I you get 4 devices, you gonna have hell.

So, what sorts of expectations do y'all have for non-Bronze players? (and not as in "well, they're useless but I'll carry if I have to", but as in "it'd be nice and not in fact unreasonable")

I'm saying "non-Bronze" instead of, say, Platinum, because even Silver gets ugly when for some reason your teammates decide to completely ignore mission objectives and teamwork. It's a bad sign when you have two teammates go down in opposite corners of the map within seconds of each other, in the first couple minutes of Wave 3.

MP lobbies strike me as odd. I've quite a few players with Cerberus Harriers or other well-regarded URs, many many thousands of challenge points and 20+ promotions per class in Bronze lobbies, and they generally actually seem to be playing seriously and not spending all their time hatesurfing, Volus Vanguard + Batarian Gauntlet charge+crotch-punching-of-doom, Scorpion + Throw, or anything else that they could easily get away with on Bronze and might be funny.

Then there are players with pretty low experience judging by few challenge points, no promotions, low-level characters, who win a Bronze match and then try setting it to Silver immediately... and have a decently high chance of rage-quitting.

I'll stick around if a host decides to risk Silver and prospects look non-terrible, but would run the heck from anything higher. Been relying too much on Ballistic Blades + Inferno Grenades, which is probably great for learning bad habits (i.e. playing very aggressively to blast spawns at pretty close range, not working enough on weapon aim because those abilities are extremely forgiving, not learning rolls etc because Bats don't have them); probably should force myself to run Asari Adept or Huntress for a while.

Thoughts, guidelines?

The only guidelines I care about are; 1.) Help with objectives. "Drawing aggro" is just an excuse people use to kill moar things. Don't even come at me, bro. I don't want to hear it. Get in the damn circle.

2.) Save your missiles for objective rounds. Do not nuke spawns. It tends to make people angry. Not me, other people. The only exception is Armored Compartments.

3. ) Do not camp the extraction zone. You will get swarmed from all directions. You will go down, people will try to save you and then they'll be camping the EZ. 20 seconds. Wait for it, then sprint for it.

Other than those 3 things, I'll play with anybody using any kit, any gear, any level, any difficulty.

Not only low N7 players are fairly common, but also high N7 players.
I joined a random lobby today where all players had 5-digit ranks. So that was cool.

Oddly enough, I've had a run with a lot of new players with low CPs and N7s that were pretty decent. The high N7s I have ran into have mostly sucked lately.

the high N7/CPs could be out of practice like I am. Shouldn't matter in silver though.

Here's a perspective from a fresh player.

Not everyone who has an N7 rating of 500 or less is a scrub.

*snip*

Most people around here don't take N7 seriously.

I'm an N7 120, myself, and most people are happy to carry this scrub. :wizard:

The last few Gold matches I played had +1500 N7 ratings; all had at least lvl 2 mods etc and I got 15 revive medals - the highest ever!!

The N7 rating means nothing as a lot of older players have started new accounts, don't instantly "scrub" ppl with low N7's and don't think higher rating means a better player. Same with BoTB banner. Played with a 13k BoTB recently and they absolutely sucked big time.

One rule I apply and stick to - if they look as though they know what they're doing and are willing to co-operate with rest of team - happy to carry them if necessary.  If not, join another game and don't waste my hard won consumables.

Getting increasingly fed up with those who come on with no skill, expect to lead and when they don't just p**s around for the rest of the match. Pls BW, introduce a facility to kick ppl mid game. Even though it may get abused by a few, the majority I think would use it fairly.

Just don't be a bloody Juggernoob every game.

Beyond that mix up characters between sets.

If you spam Juggy, you won't learn how to stay alive as weaker kits, won't learn as much as you could about combos, and stuff like that. Basically you'll play yourself into a rut that will be difficult to get out of later.

I would argue to not mix them up between stes,
take the time to learn a class/race then reset and try a difrent one. a drell vanguard is difrent then a human then a cabal then an asari and each have there strengths and weekensses. changing all the time will just add to confusion of learnign how to play a build

So in spite of saying that N7 means nothing, we're still associating N7 with skill level. Cool story.

N7 certainly does mean something, it is one piece of info out of a variety of info one can use to guess at a players level of competance.

while you can be a great player with an N71 rating it tells people who do not know you how many charactors you have played. N7240 tells me you have leveled that char 2 times to 20 so you should be a bit better with it then say some one with N7120. Now it is not the only way to tell a players skill, but it is one of MANY ways to get an idea.
I personally feel using that alone to kick some one out of a gold game is just stupid, but then again I also feel playing Gold PUG groups is asking for trouble, just like asking Freddy C to baby sit your kid while he is sleeping lol

I played the last couple days for the first time in about 2 months most of the pugs had CPS in the thousands
The games were okay we extracted each time even though 3 out of the 4 matches finished with only 3 players cause someone bailed.

It's one piece of info that you look at along with challenge points and load out.

Load out is probably the most important but the other numbers have value. There are always anomalies of vet people starting anew or people that just keep those numbers low by choice but they are what they are anomalies.

Entering a lobby and looking N7 values more often than not they are an indicator of experience and at least some level of competance.
