I have to keep switching over to the Dragon Age wiki to remind myself about the weapons people are mentioning. I'd love the return of longswords for rogues with more weapon set (longsword + dagger) bonuses. For example, the Dumat's weapon set makes you immune to flanking. I think that's really cool and an organic way to give a bonus.Shadow Quickpaw wrote...
Just give back the DAO weapon styles again, (longswords for rogues!) and SOMETHING resembling a Dar'Missan and I'll be peachy. Maybe Dumat's Spine...
Oh! And melee staffs. If possible.

AGreed but just incase they dont go with that design, all you need is one good design and you can keep the cosmetics of the sword and just upgrade the stats. Plus im a greatsword fan so the design you see in most screenshots is what i wanted so i setIn Exile wrote...
I really disliked the design of the baseline longswords. I hope that the Warden's longsword becomes the baseline design.

also, I hope they get rid of the ridiculous staffs and greatswords from DA2. like, seriously.

Normally I'm not one for extravagant looking swords but I love the design.

The Family Sword and Topsider's Honor were so much sharper and had the look of being ready for war. That baseline longsword looks like a bloody practice sword.Sentinel358 wrote...
Completely agree i hated how dull the blade seemed in cutscenes, the family sword is much more satisfing to the eyes in my opinionGregolian wrote...

Topsider's honour
Also, can I ask for a bit of a redesign on the plain longswords:
I like the plainess if that's a word... until you get to the pommel, it looks way too small. The Family Blade if you were a Cousland and the Topsider's Honor sword were my favorite looking swords.
On the extravegance side I would have to say no more of that weird Great Sword from the DA2 DLC that looks like a giant cleaver (Hayder's Razor or something like that?) but the extravegance of swords is usually in the hilt/pommel and the inlay on the blade.
Examples (some yes are from fantasy movies so bear with me):

The blades are all sharp as hell looking but look at the pommels and the hilts. That's where the extravegance lies.
Now, DA:O blades:

The basic longsword I kinda already stated my issue with it and I just don't like the Saw Sword look, it doesn't make sense to me. Outside of that the Starfang blade style I don't mind either honest. Vigilance I like the story behind it and it's extravegant without being bizarre IMO:

What was wrong with Starfang's design? If you hated that, then you have some serious issues when it comes to weapon design.SergeantSnookie wrote...
Starfang, so long as it doesn't look like a clunky blunt-ended plastic LARP sword this time.
Thank god for Adonnay's Weapon Replacer.

I could imagine a few issues people would have with Starfang. The One-Handed sword variant looks a little weird, with kind of the wave-crest blade. A bit of an abstraction if you prefer you weapons to look believable. Both the Two-handed and One-handed version also have a kind of alien glowy look to them, more reminiscent of Final Fantasy's iconic Ultima Weapons. While I personally don't hold that attribute against Starfang, I do prefer my weapons to look as though they were forged of real metals.
Give me a Longclaw over a Starfang any day.

What the heck is a LARP weapon?
Live-action Role-Playing.
Basically a way of saying the sword/weapon looks fake, or as if it were made out of foam/blunt/useless.

On Starfang though, it's from space AND it's not the first sword with runes in it to glow.

Eh like he said, i prefer something that looks like it was forged out of real metal, the glowing aura takes me out of it a bit
well the best way how to show the weapon is magical is by adding runes or glow
