David Gaider confirmed that if Hawke killed Anders, he is ultimately dead. Justice, however, may be another story.[10]

Justice or Vengeance taken over Anders body, if alive

Doesn't need to be alive, remember Awakening?

I know, but it's also been show in DA2 that Justice/Vengeance can take full control over Anders

So I feel that sometime after DA2 Vengeance can take complete control of Anders

It's a good thing Meredith's body fell apart can you imagine if Justice got control of her bod while it was still full of "bionic lyrium"! Holy Hell!

If he's alive, time to get out the trusty murder knife or better yet burn him at the stake.

It's creepy how many people want to viciously kill what amounts to a bunch of pixels. And how they have to repeatedly state that desire to kill in any thread that even tangentially opens the topic for discussion. In the end, I guess it's good that these violent souls take their anger out on pixels instead of real people or animals. Still... creepy.

You do realize DA2 is a game where the player slaughters countless people into gorey chunks and blood mist, no?

Yes be concerned about killing an NPC in a game where we have slaughtered thousands, made hundreds explode in a gory fashion, and can slaughter an entire tribe of elves.

How did Anders force the mages to leave when the mages chose to leave at the end of the Asunder novel?

Indeed. He forced only the mages in Kirkwall to fight, since the alternative was death.

This is wrong. Prior to the meeting where everything went to hell there was already a war but neither side announced it officially.  While Templar reinforcements arrived at Kirkwall to suppress further resistance, news from escaping mages of what had occurred spread to other Circles. Outraged that the templars of Kirkwall would invoke the Right of Annulment to justify the extermination of an entire Circle for the crimes of one apostate, some Circles revolted, while others were close to doing so. In response, the Templar Order cracked down, further restricting mage freedoms in an attempt to quell further disturbance. It was after these events that meeting started, if reversing of tranquility was to be intoduced officially that would have reduce the tensions greatly but everything went to hell and both sides declared war on each other.

So Anders indeed started the whole thing, sure it was the college of Enchanters who declared the war, mostly Fiona, but there was already a fire, she just added fuel to it and a lot of it.

So did he do it on behalf of mages or his own view of how mages should live?

Option B.

Agreed with eluvianix.

Not that his view is wrong, necessarily. I mean, don't we all deserve to be free from subjegation and imprisonment (imprisoned purely for being born different)?

It just shows how well written and how realistic the characters are. BioWare knows how to get at your emotions. If it's creepy to hate one character enough to want to kill them for being a lying, betraying, mass murderer, then is it also creepy to want to romance a character, to feel emotional attachment towards your pixelated character's pixelated family? Is it creepy to feel sad when the pixelated characters you have come to know over the course of 1 or more games die one by one? Is it creepy to feel a sense of desperate urgency when your pixelated character's pixelated friends are in danger? The characters are realistic enough to be seen as people, and some people in real life are sick monsters that you wish would die in the most horrible way possible. Pedophiles, rapists, mass murderers, etc...and Anders falls into that category.

If we'd had the choice NOT to recruit him, and have him not be in the story at all, (like Fenris and Isabella) then people wouldn't have had such a big problem with him. He is not only repulsive but is FORCED on you, and no matter what you do you can't stop or even hinder him in any way or lessen the deaths he causes. Now people are implying he will be back from the dead again as a posessed corpse and our response is "oh HELL no! I will kill him AGAIN if he shows up and make sure he's dead this time by burning the body D:< "

PS, I cried when Ned Stark died, creepy right? It's pretend.

Born differently? They were born with superhuman powers and have the greatest potential of becoming possessed by malicious supernatural entities and decimate an entire village.

They are a clear and present danger.

I don't hate DA2 Anders because he's well written, I hate him because he's an emo crybaby who complains constantly (not unlike Fenris, but I gave him a break because I used to like FF), the opposite of DA:A Anders who I liked enough not to give to the Templars.

In DA2 I was trying to kill him as a way to get him out of the story like Isabella when I gave her to the Oxmen.

@Orian Tabris: it doesn't matter if his view is right or wrong. He still forced the mages in Kirkwall to make a choice between fighting or dying. And even with the support of the Champion, many mages died in Kirkwall. And there's banter where Anders was stunned to see that much death (though I don't recall the details of the banter).

As I've said before, the Mage-Templar was is akin to the American Revolution for the "when it started" debate. Put simply:

Kirkwall Incident = Battle of Lexington and Concord = First battle in the war
Abolishment of Circles = Signing of Declaration of Independence = Official beginning of the war

I put those links in OP for a reason. I will quote the part I want you to read. David Gaider talking about Anders

"My impression is that reactions to Anders runs the complete gamut from adoration to loathing. Considering what he does at the end of Dragon Age 2, that’s totally expected. He’s a polarizing character, and responses to that last act of his seem to vary from betrayal (“God dammit, Anders!”) to rage (“It was as if everything I despise about him exploded all over me… in a, uh, totally non-sexual way!”) to indignation (“Why didn’t he just ask me— I would have helped him!”) to support (“He’s awesome. Fight the power!”). Which has been interesting to watch, from my perspective. I wouldn’t call any of those the right reaction… he’s in the game to make you react somehow, and he succeeded admirably in that respect."

As you can see he was created to make people react to him and his actions in the story so he coudln't be an optional character like Fenris or Isabela.

It doesn't matter if it was besides the point or not (which is what you are telling me in this post), because I was just defending Anders, since it looked like you people were putting him down.

BTW, there is no such thing as "a" banter. It's just banter.

It wasn't my intention to put him down. I was just stating my opinion, since Hirovoid asked me a question.
Thanks about the correction :).

Are you kidding?

First I get him to die in DAO: Awakening.
Then I kill him in DA2.
And now what? I need to do it again? Really?

edit: wait, i'll actually do it with extreme pleasure :D

Yeah I think that is a big part of it.

It is very obvious to the player that he is up to something bad and the game shows that Hawke knows this as well given that they have the option of informing on him to Elthina or Cullen.

If the player wasn't blatantly railroaded into letting Anders succeed no matter what he probably would have been better received.

Oh, so that makes it OK to persecute someone for something they might do?

That's like saying, "Oh, Saddam Hussein is an Iraqi, and a terrorist, therefore, we must kill/imprison all Iraqis because they have the greatest potential to become terrorists." You know, being a mage isn't a requirement to cause death and destruction. There are many things/people that do that just as well, without magic (for example, Loghain).

And yes, I know he's dead. And no, comparing fiction to history/realtiy is not a reason to go off at me.
