I've been wondering this for awhile now and I wonder just how big the world is and when will ever go beyond Thedas into uncharted waters so to speak. What other landmasses are there? What other things are their to be seen? Mayybe will rediscover griffins on another continet or maybe a land populated by elves have lived in a colossal Empire for decades and we come across it. Or maybe beyond the uncharted wilds there is a land that Darkspawn have been spilling over into for centuries and have built a civilization of their own. I am Curious to what  more this world has to offer.

Maybe once we tie up all the loose ends between the nations of Thedas the next game can consist of a Christopher Columbus type of chracter and S/he and their crew set sail to discover new lands. That would be interesting to play

Odds are, it's an Earth-size planet, at least if Bioware is going by known scientific standards.

Get much smaller, and the odds of a planet's core solidifying increase, which leads to a loss of a magnetic field, which in turn allows cosmic radiation to strike the surface of a planet unimpeded. Needless to say, that's bad for development of complex life forms.

Get much bigger, and you could wind up with tectonic plates never forming, thus freezing the crust largely into place, preventing the recycling of minerals, metals, water and so on. Mind you, this scale is one that works on the order of tens of millions of years.

@Quill74Pen

Makes sense it would be Earth Sized. From what Maps I've seen of Thedas. Its almost about the size of Europe give or take. Leaving a lot of undiscovered locations left to the imagination.

From my knowledge Thedas is in the southern hemisphere and I'll quote the DA wiki on this "Thedas is a continent in the southern hemisphere, and the only known continent of the Dragon Age universe, upon which all of the Dragon Age games are set. It is presumed that there are other continents, as the Qunari do not originally come from Thedas but from an unknown land across the Northern Ocean. According to some sources, the humans also came from the north."

The word "Thedas" originates from Tevene, once referring to all lands beyond the Imperium and eventually, it came to encompass the entire continent. A native of Thedas is referred to as a Thedosian.

According to David Gaider, there is no individual name for the planet where Thedas exists, as most Thedosians consider Thedas "the entire world".

So it's unknown how large the actual world is.

Indeed. Hence it would make for an interesting story to have a Christopher Columbus type of character be comissioned to go out and see what beyond the maps of Thedas.

They can divide it into two games. One going out to seas and the other traveling through to Kokari Wilds until you get to uncharted territory.

Thedas is part of the Mass Effect universe, it's planet in a foreign system, Shepard will probably find it one day.

another continent with a "jade empire" feel could be awesome
or a more tropical jungle, mayan or incan inspired continent
maybe even a land completely alien when compared to our world.

So many possibilities.

Think it depends how long they want to keep dragon age going, come to think of it, since the chantry is falling apart, I wonder what is going to happen to the age names, since the current age in the world is the Dragon Age, and thats not going to last forever

Hey, it worked for Assassin's Creed ;)

On-topic: I'd say Earth-sized, though I'd be surprised if even Bioware had a detailed outline of the rest of the planet.

Also, why are people saying they know how large Thedas is? None of the maps have any scales.

And now I'm awake...Nice post so far. As for the ME Easter eggs. That might be a funny twist but I think they are just Easter eggs. So unless we come across a probe in Thedas covered in moss repeating "Probe launched...Launching probe" we should treat them as aster eggs and nothing more.

Anyway...to get back on topic. An Coming across a Inca or Mayan like culture in a future game sounds lovely. Can really bring back the Dark tone of the series if they try to sacrifice you to their gods. And as for the idea that Blights effect more than just Thedas and depending if there is any kind of organized resistance against them, that may prove to be a scary situation.

Where did the Qunari come from? And for that matter humanity? Thedas, thus far at least, is a continent. One of at least two, and likely more, considering the migration of the Qunari and humanity. From what we know so far only elves and the Fex can be considered native to the known continent.

The humans of Thedas are much like real life humans in that they have a tendency to shape history to suit the powerful so theirs can understandably be permitted a lapse in documenting pre migration history. However the tenacious pragmatism of the Qunari does not allow for such an oversight. Given that the ancient Pyramids in Seharon( or is it Par Vollen, I forget) depict giant horned deities, there appears to have been interaction between humanity and the horn race that now are identified as Qunari or kossith (focus people; semantics are not the topic) prior to the continent we know of in the game.

That, and other pre migration history, is the history I am most interested in learning more about.

@Fortlowe

That is true indeed...For all we know the Kossith we know could be exiles from their original Race. And as we speak their is a larger nation of Kossith out there, and it turns out the Qun was nothing more than a strange cult that was exiled from their original lands. As for where humans come from. It is believable that other human civilizations are beyond Thedas. The question is what sort of civilization is it? If Thedas is suppose to give off a Europe sort of vibe i would imagine that it some what follow the same rules.

I would wager that Humanity came from beyond the Kokari wilds as nomads and began to Settle in Fereldan and they spread out from their. And dpending just how accurate the science in the Dragon Age Universe is we could have another case of a frozen land bridge that once existed and Humanity was able to migrate beyond bodies of water. Of course all speculative.

Yes, maybe the Qunari left because they were outcasts among their people. That would be an interesting twist. And if their book turns out to be a lie . . .

^That would be an interesting twist with the Qunari, I would quite like to see how that type of thing would unfold
