RE: Taking Charge of Project Q

Now for the hard part - picking up the pieces of Q and moving on. So what exactly does this entail...
1) Project Q needs a home for its forums that is managed by active members of the team and not drifitng in limbo. I have this overwhelming fear that I'll wakeup one morning and the Q website will be gone. So if you know a good webhosting service, let me know.
2) Project Q has a home for its files - all future updates will be released through Neverwintervault.org
3) I already have a v1.8 in the works that includes bugfixes for v1.7 and a minuscule amount of new content.
4) The current domain qnwn.net will be depreciated over time, allowing for a smoother transition to the new site.
5) Working with me is difficult. I'm hard-headed, opinionated, have OCD, and set a pace that can and will quickly burn out other people. I'm the proverbial "charging bull" and NWN is that red cloth waving in front of my nose. I'm putting this out there for any future volunteers that come forward - know who you'll be working with and don't say I didn't warn you.
6) Please stop asking me if you can use this part of Q or that part of Q in your own haks. I can't give that permission. I can only give it for stuff I made. The few authors I have been able to pass such messages to never reply, or, if they do, it always to say "yes, go ahead and use it." Project Q was released for public use under BioWare's EULA, making it public domain. I have NO desire to prevent ANYONE from using Project Q however they see fit. However, if you do include the full Project Q hak structure in your designs can you not rename the files. That way, when I update, you get updated as well and we don't have multiple version of Q floating around the web.
7) I'm excited about Project Q again and look forward to seeing where it heads and where the future of NWN lies.

I work full-time, parent full-time, and am a full-time student.
Been there done that (well, not the parenting, but something close enough) - so you get extra appreciation from me for doing stuff here from which other people benefit.
*takes hat off*
p.s. not voulnteering to help yet, but likely to do so once I pick up some skills that would actually be of any use.

Thanks, and very much appreciated. As far as picking up skills...start with existing models and work on modifying those. I have a great tutorial called "Making a Smithy" on my Projects page that you could start with.

I am in the same boat minus the " full time student" I'm only part time. That said if you have need of my meager skill set then I am active.
And very much welcome to continue as such. If you and ShadowM can get those skinmeshehed critters down that'd be great. I know a lot of people that would love to have non-mount versions of many of them. I just noticed that Baba did skinmesh cats using what look to be the same models so we can call those done.

Just an idea for forums/files. Consider having Rolo carving out a small subsection on the new vault for Q. If that is at all feasible......
Already thought of and discussed. Time to renew that discussion.

OK - so its kind of like what the CTP Team used - I think it was CVS.

My offer to help from the Q 1.7 release thread still stands. I am in the same boat as many of you have stated: full time job, full time parent of two, not a student anymore though.....
Good. Q needs solid, dedicated people behind it that aren't going to disappear once the work starts. The first thing we need to do is get the rsync updater back online - at least for development. That made it so much easier for stuff to be submitted and tracked.
MDA, is this something you could support if Q was hosted by you?

I'm not familiar with it, but I don't see why not. PM me with details and I'll check into it.
