Why do people keep fawning so much over the Lancer? Yeah, it's one of the best ARs, but that's because most ARs are pretty worthless. Lancer is the mayor of the Overrated City and doesn't hold a candle to Harrier, Sabre, Typhoon or PPR.

Yes, the Harrier, Saber, PPR, and Typhoon can probably out DPS the Lancer.  That isn't it's purpose.  It's light, great at applying ammo effects, doesn't need ammo, and does decent damage.  That makes it a great caster weapon, especially if you like detonating incindiary/disruptor ammos.  All four of your "superior" ARs are significantly heavier, and the Harrier has major issues with ammunition, plus the PPR and Typhoon need to ramp up, making them useless for power spamming classes

And despite everyones whining about it's accuracy, it is one of the few weapons that I feel I can put a targetting VI on it and not feel like I'm gimping my damage.

CSMG is Lancer 2.0 for casters.

CSMG runs out of ammo too fast,  and doesn't seem to apply ammo effects as reliably in my experience.  Perhaps that will change if I ever get them both to X.  I also find that for a rapid-fire weapon it is a little TOO accurate.  The Lancer has enough spread to make hitting agile/small targets easier (or laggy targets), but is still accurate enough to make reliable headshots at mid range.  I find that I personally fare better with the Lancer than the CSMG on most characters.  But a lot of that is presonal preferance, rather than thinking it is an all around superior weapon.

CSMG runs out of ammo faster than Lancer, but starts its ammo regen immediately when you pause firing, which is great for casters and gives you full benefit from burst firing. It also gives that low ammo warning much earlier. Applying ammo effects? I'd like some cold, hard data instead of gut feelings, because CSMG seems to do it just fine. CSMG has almost zero recoil, and as for being too accurate... I guess Lancer is better for spray-and-pray players. Let me fix my earlier statement:

Immediate ammo regen is indeed very nice when playing geth or cerberus, but with banshees and preatorians and their anti-power bubbles,  having the ability to NOT spam powers sometimes feels more usefull.  With the CSMG, when fighting anti-power enemies I find myself spending too much time waiting for the regen and not enough time putting bullets into the enemy.

As for the ammo powers thing, I can hardly give you hard data.  All I can say is that my HS can give a quick burst with Lancer  Incindiary IV followed by a CC and get an explosion what feels like 90% of the time, while my Vorcha Hunter with CSMG Incindiary IV followed by Incinerate gets an explosion what feels like 75% of the time.

Don't get me wrong, I love the CSMG, I just think that the Lancer is better on SOME builds.

Sorry for not responding, somehow I totally forgot this thread.

It's true that Lancer is generally better against anti-power enemies, although if those enemies are down to armor, CSMG can still match or even exceed Lancer's sustained damage output because of its armor multiplier and better accuracy (headshots).

I really don't understand your point about CSMG being worse from afar, its accuracy and lack of recoil makes it superior. If it's "too accurate" for you, you can just sweep with it manually to make sure you're hitting something. I do fire at far away swarms (when it doesn't make sense to close the distance) and I've no problems targeting ballet-dancing phantoms (those moves are pretty predictable).

I do agree that Lancer is better on some builds - Turian Soldier being one example. Of course, there are much, much better weapons for Turian Soldier.
