So lately I was at the Witcher Forums and noticed that most (if not all) of the users there don't like Dragon Age
They find it immature in comparison to The Witcher and view the latter as much more superior in every way(story, gameplay...)

So what do you think about The Witcher? Do you feel exactly the opposite? Or do you agree with them?
In my opinion both game franchises are awesome and I'm looking forward to both of them
but apparently many think that you can't be a fan of both of them

It's a fools errant to argue if one is more mature than the other. I find Dragon Age plenty mature, though I am not familiar enough with the Witcher to judge its story. The deal breaker for me is Character Creation.

That and Geralt is so damn boring.

I found the combat in The Witcher intolerable, and was unable to play the game for more than 10 minutes. I haven't touched another Witcher game.

Action combat has no place in roleplaying games.

I'm sure someone could be a fan of both, but I am not.

I prefer DA to TW for the following reasons:

1) Combat
2) Skills
3) Able to create what my own character looks like
4) Camera controls in TW leave a lot to be desired.....TW camera controls are nausea inducing.

I like the idea of the Witcher but the combat really turns me off and I usually like that type of combat, but something about how Witcher does it just really puts me off, but I do vastly prefer Dragon Age type of gameplay, and storytelling to be honest

Plus being able to design my own personal character really adds to the whole experience of Bioware Games, though when it came to the ME series I always used default Shepard, could never make a custom one look good xD, yet I could make a very good looking male hawke/warden which for my tastes I found attractive :P

Speaking as someone who as only played The Witcher 2, I do like the art style more than Dragon Age, but as Sylvius said the combat really isn't good. Hopefully Inquisition and Witcher 3 aren't released too closely to each other, because I definitely plan on purchasing both.

They're both good, in different ways. TW2 had a better written story than either of the DA games in my opinion, and did a good job with letting you take vastly different story routes in Act 2. DA games have better character writing though. As for combat, I enjoyed TW and TW2, but I still prefer DA's more tactical style.

For maturity? Toss-up. TW2 narrative is maturely done, good political machinations and all that, maybe slightly more maturely executed than DA's plots. But while it has improved over the first game, The Witcher franchise is still a far cry from treating women in a mature fashion. So there's that. I stubbornly remain a fan of both, though, and am really excited for the respective 3rd games of both series.

A mod will probably close this thread.

The comparisons between the games have been made for a long time now in multiple threads. No need to start another one.

Stan and Schumacher have poo pooed the rivalry stuff the fans have said exist between CD Projekt and Bioware. They have said the gaming industry doesn't work that way.yada yada.
So it's the fans generating this stuff.

I fault CdProject for not doing enough to get the Witcher games on the Playstation, but outside of that, I don't concern myself with the Witcher games very much.
Don't care if their fans don't like the DA franchise.

shrugs.

I'll take Dragon Age over Witcher any day. I own The Witcher 2 and keep trying to get through it. The problem is that every time I start it, I get so damn bored with it. The story isn't really that interesting in the least bit, Geralt isn't that likable of a character, and the combat is meh. The farthest I've gotten was Act 3 before quitting because of the lack of interest.

I'll still give Wild Hunt a try though.

I could see myself despising The Witcher games with every fibre of my being, but let's not go there.

TW2 was good enough, but it's too different from dragon age to be truly comparable imo.

The worst parts is that Geralt's really boring, and the game is both extremely sexist and homophobic. It's got a good story and good storytelling though.

I liked Witcher 2 (the first one was alright) and looks forward to Wild Hunt but something about the whole... thing rubs me the wrong way.

I like both, but I prefer Dragon Age due to the fact that we can create and customise our own protagonist (even more so in DAI from the sounds of things) and that you interact more with the companions in DA games.

As someone who played the DA games and the Witcher games, each more than once, i have played whatever is to play in those games.

Both games have their strengths for sure, which is why im getting both when they come out.

I'll be honest and say i do look more forward to Witcher 3, but ill keep my reasons to myself because i can see why a lot of people prefer DA.

Cant wait for more stuff to be unveiled at E3 !

Having tried both, I can confirm this. Combat in TW2 is better than TW, but it's still the same style, so... meh.

Haven't played the first Witcher but I have the second. As much as I enjoyed the second and think it's an excellent game, I think it's highly overrated.

There were a few things that really jarred me about the game, firstly I found it difficult to gain a significant grasp on the lore and the game has no codex of any sort to ease you into understanding its backstory. As you can imagine this severley hampers your immersion into the universe which is a huge negative for a story driven game.

Secondly the questlog could be written extremely poorly, it gave you such little indication at time at what you were meant to do. I remember this one quest to do with harpies, I spent ages doing what it asked me to do and going to the areas it indicated and yet when I checked online I was told to do something completely different.

Thirdly I felt the story was broken in a way, it is structured into acts similar to Dragon Age 2. However each act is significantly different, introducing new characters and themes as if on a whim and then casting them away equally as fast. You never get to properly know characters and learn to empaphise with situations their in. It was easy to be a dick when you could.

For these reasons if TW3 follows suit I'm coming to the conclusion I will enjoy DA:I more than TW3. For me an RPG is all about the characters and setting and if I don't care for them then it takes the immersion away and some of the fun.

I played both and I say Dragon Age owns The Witcher games. Only the Elder Scrolls games are in the same level with Dragon Age, but so far still above Dragon age in my opinion, we will see how DA:I does, looks good so far.

I am excited for both DAI and Witcher 3. I do have to say the art style of Witcher I like a lot more, everything seems more gritty/real in how things look.

HOWEVER, I dislike the fact I can't create my own character and I cursed myself to not enjoying the combat as I had just finished a hard mode run through of this game prior to it:

So that's partly my fault
