So, we now have our nominees for the Academy Awards, set to premiere in March 2014.

What are you thoughts about the nominees? Predictions?

I don't like to make predictions. They're often the opposite of what I'd choose within Hollywood's narrow view of last year's best.

EDIT: I'm sorry, Frozen isn't nominated for best soundtrack?!

EDIT 2: Frozen versus The Wind Rises? Disney versus Miyazaki? Oh, boy...

It IS a little ridiculous that Frozen didn't get nominated for Best Soundtrack/Score in some cases.

At least for the AAs Let It Go got nominated for Best Song.

Well, the Oscars are a bit ridiculous anyway. I'll probably never take them seriously unless they get Robin Williams to host.

Robin Williams aside, I think the reason why Frozen's sountrack didn't get nominated is because it sounds like almost every other Disney movie soundtrack ever.

Which given the usual quality of Disney soundtracks means they got excluded from those awards because no one else would win if a Disney film were contesting.

Seriously, I've yet to hear any Disney song/track/melody that isn't great. Even those oldtime shnarmtastic songs, even though not often my taste are of exceptional quality.

I doubt The Oscars aren't TOTALLY rigged, but they do clearly have biases.

As for Jennifer Lawrence, no, you're thinking of Scarlett Johannson. They look similar, so I can see where you'd make the mistake (they both have fake blond hair, they're both Americans in movies, etc.).

I have a feeling Leonardo may not win an Oscar.

I disagree. Some just seem like jumbled up songs put together. Frozen's sounds like the absolute perfect match for a musical, which is convenient given it IS going to be a musical in the future thanks to its colossal success so far.

Guess that doesn't count for much, though.

Nor should he. I mean, he's been snubbed more than anyone in Hollywood, sure, but Matthew Mcconaughey deserves it this year.

Speaking of snubs though, wtf happened to Joaquin Phoenix in Her?

A lot of it's frankly ridiculous. 'Bad grandpa' nominated in makeup and hairstyling and no Desolation of Smaug? Seriously?

And Frozen absolutely should have been nominated for its score. Its quite discernible from your standard Disney fare, Sami influence and all.

I forget the actor's name, but what about the lead in 12 Years Of Slave?

Overlooked again. Just like he was in Gladiator.

To me, that's one of the worst. Right up there with Ray Liotta being overlooked for GoodFellas. I don't even want to think about that one...

Chiwetel Ejiofor? This is his first nomination. Ever.

The was The Operative from Serenity, which he starred in with Adam Baldwin (who voiced Kal'Reeger in Mass Effect 2).

Yeah I'm not referring to him being snubbed, I bring him up as a candidate for winning the thing.

Maybe I missed the joke, but I'm assuming you actually meant Adam Baldwin here.

Hey, it happens to the best of us.

Regarding the topic, I've seen very few of the nominated films, save for Gravity, The Act of Killing, and some of the films in the visual effects category. For me, The Act of Killing was the best movie I saw this year, and I'd be shocked if it didn't win for Best Documentary (probably jinxed it right there). As far as potential snubs go, I thought Upstream Color had a terrific soundtrack, composed by director/star/writer/did everything on the movie Shane Carruth.

Is it Okay to say I don't give more than a damn about the movies nominated... it was such a horrible year for movies. I prefer to watch Chinese movies this year!

In animations... that over-dramatic hyper-emotional Frozen isn't that charming to me. THE PRIZE GOES TO: Despicable Me 2!

Amy Adams for best female actor.

The Lone Ranger gets nominated for visual effects but Pacific Rim gets snubbed.

This is why I hate the Oscars.
