Jennifer Hale Interview + Female Shepard Thoughts...

Can we agree on something here? Hale fans, stop knocking Meer, and vice versa. That way we might actually be able to a meaninful discussion, instead of acting like we're back on the kindergarten playground.
Anyway, as a fan of Hale's voice work, I would like to see female Shepard (and other Bioware heroines) get more face time in their promotional materials. So far, the advertising for ME2 have been a mite... biased.

Unfortunately, you'll get childish bickering, no matter the topic.

Personally, I like being able to play as a female. I've spent enough years gaming with no choice but to play as a man, that I really, really like the options BioWare's always given me in their RPGs. Unfortunately, with the ME2 marketing, I'm starting to think of Shepard as a 6'2", 200lb man with no forehead, and it almost makes me feel as if my Shep isn't real, which is a problem for a role playing game.
So, yeah, a nod to female gamers/gamers who play as females, and a recognition that there are other options than a thuggish renegade male Shepard would be nice.

I can't manage to play male Shep. I tried. Four times.
I quit before even landing on Eden Prime. Why? Because he talks like a pothead. It may fit in the view BioWare has for Shepard, to have him be cool and laid-back, but I must say Jennifer Hale makes Shepard *my* Shepard. She talks like I would. Her tone is spot-on through almost every conversation, and I agree that her performance should get more attention as well as the possibility for playing a female Shepard through a little different marketing perspective.
my 0.02 credits.

I hate her voice, there is no emotion in it.
It's weird how people have such opposite reactions on this, but kind of cool. For me I would say the exact opposite, and can't see even importing my male shepard character for the same reason.

Could be. : ) I don't understand people being angry about it, I think it's interesting. And I can't fully explain it, seeing as I rarely play as a female character. Didn't even try one substantially in DA:O. I'm sure I'll have to take male shep for a test spin and see how my impression holds up in ME2.

I implore you to go through a runthrough of Mass Effect with a FemShep. Hale's voicework is amazing and I will eat a (edible) hat if your experience is not affected positively because of it.Could be. : ) I don't understand people being angry about it, I think it's interesting. Most researchers who come up with grand statistics like ''female gamers are 40% of the market'' usually have a broad definition of what constitutes a game. I think you'll find a large chunk of that is spread around The Sims, Wii sports and workout games and social networking apps. The amount of female gamers who play shooters is probably a lot lower.

I wonder, due to the Sheploo biased advertising, how many people out there don't even realise that you can be a FemShep?
As i've said in the past, the ME series could very easily and clearly have had a pr campaign that was ambiguous as to Shepards gender and apperarance.
Other games manage to portray the ability to have a custom made main character, so I really wonder why Bioware went the way they did.

If you think about it, it must actually be really disheartening to put in as much ( or even more ) effort into doing the same thing as somebody else and to then get practially no official recognition for it.

I think there marketing is going for cinematic feel. Because thats what sells to the casual. Core players know what this game can do because they come along and read previews and such. People who just see commericals are going to feel that its like an uncharted in space or something which will be good for the game in my opinion because it will make more sells and i doubt it will be returned alot especially because the game handles so much like a shooter.
To the thing about not knowing you can make a femshep even for people who just see commericals. They have shown the start menu for the game which clearly says Male Shephard and below Female Shephard for starting playthroughs and then importing below that. If someone buying this game is not bright enough to see the Male Female option then thats sad.

I still think a vid showing character customization would be nice for ME3, and the screen's for ME2 came very late, but at least it is something.

Male Shepard is the "developer's vision" of the hero and of course they are going to showcase him thus, besides he's the staple of the series.

I think having a male and female Shepard in the same trailer would be great.
Have something where two teams are fighting their way to a target and at the end the two Shepard's come face to face with a line like "what the hell?" and then have a tag line 'Mass Effect 3, even gender is your choice."
