Support. I won't say anything against Meer but I am definitely a big fan of Hale's work. Damn impressive!

This article (also posted above) says a lot I would agree with regarding Hale's work and is worth a read for those on the fence.

I don't think making her a lead for commercials would attract to many people, either you like sci-fi/shooter/rpg/story heavy games or you don't.

I do think she is a strong female lead, and I wouldn't mind seeing it, but when I think of Mass Effect I see male shepard because thats what I saw the very first time. People aren't stupid, and I don't think people would think less of the game for showing her in Ads, but its just when people think mass effect, they think male.

Now, outside of commercials, say GDC or E3 conventions, I think they should show her in a more prominent role. That could be done easily, and wouldn't confuse anyone because its a demonstration or a trailer specificly made for the people their and on the internet, not an ad during the super bowl.

I would love to see one of the official trailers for ME3 feature Hale instead of Meer.

Meer is excellent at voicing hanar ;p

I don't see why they can't put out a gameplay trailer with male and female Shepard, even if they have to release them a time apart.

I of course understand that making the CGI trailers for both genders would be cost prohibitive.

It wouldn't be difficult for Bioware to release a trailer explaining how you can customize your character and show a pretty, and ugly femshep. :P

Yea, I played as female Shepard. I was unsure as to which I should choose first, but Jennifer Hale is to good. Couldn't go back. I'm a guy, and even i think it is kind of sexist that she is so ignored.

That'd be a badass cover.  But then, they'd need a default female Shepard face.

They have one; default Jane Shepard has short red hair and standard makeup in both games.

EDIT: Argh, caught by a necromancer. Free me from my bony prison!

I think he's talking about a real exclusive face. FemShep is the ONLY member of the team not to have one. You can recreate her face via the In game editor.
And I think this is great. It clearly shows that Shep is meant to be a male, than Femshep is only a fancy option for feminist extremists that think having only a male char is mysoginist or something.

EDIT:

yea that kind of people I'm talking about.

Really? She exactly look like every other femal NPC in the game...
Dude, well, she clearly need a real-life template to be modelised from cause seriously her face sucks.

They could make a great one.  They could just do a video where you have Shepard giving a short monologue (in both Mark Meer's and Jennifer Hale's voice) for 30 seconds and whilst this is happening pan the camera around him/her slowly for 360 degrees, and whilst that's happening have Shepard's appearance constantly change.

It's been done a kazillion times - there was one in the cinema's (in the UK) a while back where there's a person in a grey t-shirt, he/she drinks something and there's heavy garage music playing.... what was it for again.... I can't remember... but as I say, it's been done several times, and Bioware - or Blur even - could just, erm, "mass-effect-ify" that concept...

Maleshep is just the canonical face of ME. Let's be honest, everyone who knows anything about ME knows that there is a female option with really good support. Hale is an impressive voice actress, that much is certain. But there's really no point in changing the advertising face. Maybe just a bit more emphasis on the customisation options.

Since I just mentioned this in another thread, I'll put it here too:  http://meforums.biow...forum=144&sp=30

See one of the dev's comments in that thread.  That's the default, marketing shepard.  But not to be confused with a cannonical shepard.  There isn't a cannonical shepard.

I thought Mark Meer did a good voice acting job in ME1. I meant I thought he was better as MaleShep than Jennifer Hale was as FemShep.

But in ME2 its like he just didnt try or didnt care.

A lot of the time he says stuff and it just sounds so completely flat and monotone; or worse the tone and inflection he puts on it makes the statement sound COMPLETELY out of context.
Whereas the exact same same lines utterred by Hale as FemShep sound so much better.

I dont know if Hale actually improved her performance, or if it was just cos Meer was totally lazy in ME2.

So in ME2 Hale was defo the better of the two. I always fot it was rather crap that for ME2 they completely dropped FemShep from the add campaigns. And their reason for it? That it might confuse people?
Utter bullcrap.
People arent that stupid. Or rather people who would play these types of games arent that stupid. And its just insulting to insinuate they are.

EDIT:
Quick nitpick here.

People please learn the difference between Canon and A Cannon.

A Cannon is an obsolete weapon that was used as artillery in war. It was a long tube attached onto wheels and gunpower was used to blast a large round shot (rock or iron) out of it at high velocity to break walls (or cavalry charges).
Canon is the established and acknowledged "true events" of a book or series or movie or game.

I must say I really, really like that the default female Shepard is rather ordinary looking - no reason every hero has to be a super model, even in the hyper-superficial world of gaming.

Many of the promotional videos does feature several shots of female Shepard, by the way, even if the bona fide trailers do not.

As for voice acting; both performances fits very well, as far as I can tell: Meer is is realistically terse and "understated", with a calm assurance, whereas Hale is "theatrically" expressive and in a position that (by standards of today, gamesplayer's timeframe, which the game needs to reference) calls for some extra assertiveness -- both are unhumanly single-minded and no nonsense businesslike.

What did I do?

P.S. -
I don't know how to make that little box thing around other people quotes. You will just have to forgive me.

I will.

For me it has nothing to do with Sheploo vs Femshep. Leaving Hale totally out of it, "John" Shepard is, in my personal opinion, the most poorly voiced lead character of any game I can ever remember personally playing (not in history, just that I have played).

It's Chuck Norris bad.

I must say that Meer is very monotone, which I feel is the biggest flaw to his performance. I don't think he's cheesy B-movie bad, but I do think his version of Shepard could use a little more dimension in terms of tonal range.

Yeah that's my fault. I didn't realize it was old because it was at the top. It must be pinned. Sorry about that.

I think that John Shepard is cliche. 'Another big muscled caucasian soildier with a big gun comes to the rescue' 'explosion' no offence. If Jane Shepard had been granted more screen time with a clear declaration to who she was I think that both ME1 an ME2 would have gained more press and notice, not that what notice that was received wasn't impressive. It's amazing how many people don't even know you can play as a female character.

There are a ton of games where I wish there was a lead female player option. :/ Most dudes I know usually lean towards the female version of a character if given the option.
