I have seen talk about suppresion fire on the boards, and even a vid by the averagegatsby talking about suppresion fire with the Revenant. But I just don't understand what people mean. In the military, suppresion fire is used to keep the enemy's heads down while a manuver unit closes with them for CQC. But there is nothing in ME enemy AI that makes them care about being shot at, and you cannot suppress an enemy that doesn't care if it is shot. In the gatsby vid I saw what was he doing? Shooting an enemy to kill it. That is not suppression fire. In suppression fire you shoot towards the enemy in general, not any one enemy in particular. In fact, that would defeat the purpose. So what in the world do people mean by suppression fire?

They could mean preventing the enemy from firing via powerful blows that have a mild stun like effect. Kind of like how incendiary ammo causes the enemy to dance in flames, instead of returning fire.

suppression fire isn't just used to move in for close quarters combat. It is for minmizing enemy fire when moving or shooting back in general.
With that said, I'm not sure what context the posts/vids you mentioned are using it in, since - haven't seen them.

You are right, there is no enemy suppression in any of the Mass Effect games as the AI does not respond to that.

I feel like I've seen sustained fire on a protected enemy cause it to stagger. Many disabling powers (slam for example) also cause a protected enemy to stagger. Possibly that?

I just watched that video again after like, 3 years and I think "Suppressive Fire" is just the name Gatsby used for a Revenant Soldier. The stuff he's talking about has everything to do with killing but nothing to do with actual suppressing... unless you somehow make the stretch that killing enemies dead = suppressing (their lives with death) lol.

Oh well, the Mattock ended being way more powerful under ARush than the Revenant anyway.

Hmm. Maybe he called it suppression fire because the Revenant is not terrribly accurate. So you are just kinda spraying an enemy with bullets, hoping enough of them hit to kill it.
