Then don't go into romance/sexuality threads.
Besides, way to miss the OP's point. They aren't talking about not getting the LI they want, they are talking about the way that gay people are pretty much invisible in the world. From what I can gather, it's the rather "Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Pop Out Dem Babies" aspect of Thedas culture that has them steamed. I may not entirely agree, but I certainly can respect where they are coming from.

Nope, romance threads are trainwrecks I can't look away from.
You go into these threads and post to complain that people create and post in these threads.
Okay, seems circular but hey, whatever floats your rubby ducky.
Nap time. Take care all.

There are a lot of things where expectations of public behavior are different from private reality.
Does that change anything for you?
No, because that's exactly what I was talking about. In Ferelden homosexuality is not considered the "norm" as those quotes and game itself clearly showed and you're expected to lead heterosexual life. But if you want to have hidden same sex relationship, people will be OK with it, as long as you stay in closet with it.
So in other words, you want repression to stay unquestioned in game. Or rather you pretend it's not repression at all...Pasquale1234 wrote...
I hope sexual orientation continues to be a non-issue in the game world. If there is a need for an LI to deal with repression, I would hope it would apply to romances with either gender.
But he wasn't revolting. That was the point, everyone was telling my character how lucky she is to get such handsome husband, while she felt completely alienated with her feelings and with a fact there's no one she could tell what's on her heart.Pasquale1234 wrote...
And you know that it isn't an equally awful experience for a non-lesbian woman who finds the man revolting?
And a fact she was so isolated that couldn't tell anyone about her feelings is the best proof that it's not "non-issue".
Pasquale1234 wrote...
Only because you assume it to be so. I've never heard one single character in either game state their sexuality.
But I think I have power over my character's sexuality. So I base my assumptions on what happened to her in game.

DA:O was just plain terrible with S/S relationships, were pretty much ignored by everyone & treated like lesser romances compared to the straight ones. the ME series wasn't much better about it too.
Dragon Age was always terrible with its romances, for straights and gays, what are you talking about?

I don't believe S/S suffered in quality, as I certainly enjoyed Zevran's romance, but I think the problem lied in quantity.Veruin wrote...

I agree that some romance content was terrible but not all, although the S/S stuff was pretty bad in origins

However, I do not think that has anything to do with sexual preference and everything to do with how indivuals are treated. Women, for instance or the casteless or the elves. I haven't used the term "non-issue." I have said that no one seems to care too much about sexual preference, either way at all, and so far, that is the case. I'd like to see more of Thedas in game before I make a judgement.
Here's where we disagree, because I think that sexual preference has a lot to do with it. Arranged marriage is awful by itself, but it's another issue when you do it to a gay person. There's no way, no possiblity she could ever be happy this way. And that "no caring too much about sexual preference" means simply leaving only one - heterosexual - outcome. It's called "heterosexism" or "heteronormativity". It's not the same as homophobia, as homophobia is connected to hatred and violence, while here it's simply not considering homosexuality as valid option, at best as something that should be hidden and something that a person should be ashamed of.

The party completely ignoring S/S relationships apart from a few lines in camp & some unfunny jokes about a male/zevran pairing, straight pairings being able to kiss anywhere & a straight relationship being talked about in dialog over a gay one if trying to date two people were things that bothered me.

This.
It's perpetuation of the species. The elven race is dying out. There's no time for some sexual revolution.

So, barring the M/F being able to kiss everywhere, that sounds exactly like the hetereo romances.
