Why? Anders is bi, at least two of the crazy blood mages in DA2 were straight. Merrill was bi, Morrigan was straight, Wynne was straight, Jowan was straight.

Not really. They wouldn't bother having homosexual relationships in the game, then. What you describe is a subsection of their target audiance.

Comes across as a bit of a wallpaper the cracks retcon excuse. If you're that in the mood for DIY I have a wall you can come and paint. Don't you think the reason is more likely to be 'oops, didn't think of that' giving us a dose of unfortunate implications.
