Is there a master list somewhere out there that lists where they can be found, exactly? I had intended not to collect them on my final playthrough (and carry over to ME2) but have recently learned they may be important. I'm a very short assignments away from going to Ilos and I'm thinking I might go around and collect them. But I'm not sure I want to scour/drive the MAKO everywhere to find them. I don't want to waste time finding 13/9 gases or 22/19 rare elements. I just want to go directly to what I need and get out.
Anyone know if this list exsists?
Gases, Insignia, Writings... ect.

This wiki has all of the quests, side quests, maps, and basically everything you would want to know about. For instance, this planet here has a map with all of its main points, and not just that, but things that don't even appear on the map.
Hope this helps!

What did you learn about them being important? For me it was the single most boring part of the game so I always skipped finding them. If they are important I am going to have to load a save before the end and go get them done.

That is sad because I actually loaded pre-Ilos save and completed every single collection quest despite being torn apart by boredom. Oh well.Dylan919 wrote...

I heard somewhere - but I don't remember where, so it could've been something someone made up or misunderstood - that completing those missions would give you extra resources in ME2. It's a boring thing to do if you're doing it on it's own at the end, but if you tie it into completing all the little sidequests, I found it went really quickly. I just checked the system page of every system I had a sidequest in, then the planet map for every planet in the system you could land on.
But if you're doing it on it's own, with no other missions, it can still go pretty quickly. I mean a lot of them you can get just from scanning a planet, which takes about two seconds. The ME Wiki has a page for each seperate collection mission. Sort it so all the planet-scan ones are first, and go through and do them all at once, then you'll know how few you actually have to get by driving around in the Mako.

Stoko981 is correct. I have read it too. Don't worry, it won't affect plotlines.

I'm actually thinking of going back and doing all the collecting stuff so I can have more stuff in the beginning of ME2.

OMG I can't believe this was even put into the game (ME1)! What a boring waste of time... I never actually completed any of them. Maybe I will, just to complete this character (I started another Shep just to import into ME2).
