""let's be the best that we can be"

basically someone's judgement.

Best to leave that to developers and not the fans quite frankly.

Never saw (over)sexualisation of female characters and their clothing in Dragon Age till now. Only Isabela comes to mind and there it fits with her character and how she wants to portray herself.

Such a thread could be advisable for many JRPG developers but the DA team? Nope.

Just because they're not the worst doesn't mean that there's no room for improvement!  I think that's the point a lot of people miss.  The people who have a problem with the oversexualisation love Dragon Age just as much as anyone else.  It's one of my favourite series of all time, and I am so excited for Inquisition.  But in spite of that, I know it's not perfect.

can we at the very least get rid of the weird boob window thing? let's just have her wear the same outfit as the male version, except cut a hole over her cleavage because ****** lol. for all yalls harping about realism on other threads, having a big open hole over your dang heart seems a-okay if some basement dweller gamer boys get to see breasts.

it's the disparity that bothers me, there are way more practical male armors than there are err...skimpy ones (the only skimpy one that comes to mind is the chasind mage robes and that's only some bare chest, whereas the female version has the whole hips and ass and boobs to the world thing goin on) whereas a good chunk of the female armors are deliberately sexualized.

it's improved on in da2 at least. but honestly i don't mind the option of something like what isabela wears - it looks like something she would've picked for herself rather than something some dudebros would make her wear - but when the regular armors for females are almost all like that it's a pretty transparent plea to see some melons on your game screen.

basically i wouldn't mind a couple more revealing armors (for all genders) as long as there are also plenty of practical ones (for all genders) and they are actually well designed and not just "what if we put her in a swimsuit with some belts and a collar thing and cut a hole out over her hooters"

As ive said its a non issue for every binini theres a banana hamock.
what would be cool is if you could put male clothes on females and vice a versa like in Beatdown or in Saintsrow but thats just my opinion on most games.

Yep, barriers and shield are the reason ME characters can walk around in little to no armor, and still be combat effective.

Yes of course.

Jack must love that warm space air.

Considering that there is a grand total of ZERO missions in zero-gravity enviroments your point falls flat on its face.

Is it really so hard to design some sort of armor texture for battle segments?

Isn't part of why we love Bioware how much they listen to the fans?  How they seem to support equality; giving us bisexual and homosexual love interests, as well as asexual or at least chaste romances too?  Well some more equality between men and women, in my view, is just an extension of the ethos and the philosophy that Bioware has already proudly displayed.

This is basically my view, especially the disparity part and the for all genders parts.

If this were true, I'd have no issue.  But bikinis outnumber banana hammocks massively in video games.

You don't think there's any difference in the armours between men and women?  You don't think women are treated any differently by designers and writers?  Men are made practical, women are made sexual.  It's not absolute, but it's still a very noticeable and very pervasive trend, and it is mindboggling that a person could not see that.

Fashionwear ≠ battle garbs.

Not in a game, because the battles with fantasy creatures, magic etc.. are already unrealistic. Therefore there is no reason that the clothes have to be like in reality.

I believe you're mixing up gameplay vs reality.

Could you explain why?

*Snip*

Not zero-gravity, not hazardous atmosphere, not a good example.

The radiation from the sun was frying the shields and barriers, so they had to stand in the shadows, in which their shields and barriers worked perfectly fine.

Clothing and armor is an entirely different argument I think.

Sexualized armor doesn't make logical sense. Exposing things like the femoral artery, or aorta is a huge problem in combat.

Clothing, though, is a lot harder to talk about, because most clothing by nature (Male or female) exists pretty much to highlight body assets instead of protection (Combat protection anyway). So both males and females are subject to the sexualized profiles. This is true for mage apparel too in my opinion, which isn't treated as "Armor" outside of statistical values. The only solution in the "Clothing" Department is equally represented options.

This is only an argument in the case of the PC, for the NPC's, particularly party members, it's up to the art team and writer to determine what best suits them.

@JordanDH:
In the industry in general? Of course and especially in asian games I'm often thinking "really??why?"  and "who finds something like that attractive?" but imo the DA team never included such an armor. The Dalish Armor is a little more revealing in the female version, sure, do I care? No. If it would've been the male version? No.

So I don't see something the designers of DA should improve. 1-2 more-revealing armors per game is great because it supports your PC when you're role playing a nympho.

What about the under-sexualization of women?

It seems that the people who condemn over-sexualization mostly ignore under-sexualization.

I wonder how many of the people crying "oppression!" and "oversexualization!" Are actually women and how many are either misguided white knights that think they are helping women's rights, or simply men who don't like when women wear certain things and wish to force all women to wear what THEY like rather than what the woman likes?

YOU CAN DRESS YOUR CHARACTER ANY WAY YOU WANT! Don't tell me how to dress mine, don't tell bioware to make every female character regardless of battle role or personality wear a hijab because that's what YOU want. Dragon Age is not realistic in the slightest, from tiny skinny elves being physically stronger than big beefy Qunari, to magic, to the fact that no one ages or wears helmets or changes clothes so don't try an use "realism" as an excuse. Me and my character will dress how we want, in a way that suits us and *gasp!* that includes massive breasts, bleach blonde hair, and revealing clothes. We are people and we exist, don't try to exclude us from the game because we don't fit YOUR ideal.

There is so much variety of armor and clothing in DA that you can have it any way you want so let me have MY game how I want.

Because I agree with you that it's unrealistic to take a hit from an Ogre or even a Dragon, but for gameplay sake, it has to be doable.  Where as the clothing is something that can be more relatable in our sense of reality, compared to fighting off Dragon's as a hobby, if you see where I'm going with that.

The warden on the right has most of her upper chest exposed, a seriously awful design by all means. Stray arrow, anyone? All that to show cleavage is truely atrocious.

Can we compromise, no cleavage plate but still keep boob plate? Pretty please? If for no other reason just to ****** off the armour nuts.

Witches and sexuality I think go together as well. Everything else I can agree with.
