Pffft.. my Human Male Engineer is a Kishock Sniper and my Salarian Engineer is a Valiant Sniper... and my Destroyer totes a Black Widow.

There's nothing wrong with acronyms.. but a sniper and a sniper rifle are NOT the same thing DR!! Geez!!

I'd actually almost argue that the Javelin, being a geth sniper rifle, could very well ALSO be a sniper. If a Geth Infiltrator (or Engineer, Trooper, or Juggernaut, I suppose, all Geth being equal) could "commune" with it (or whatever it is the geth do when "talking" to things that can take their software, such as gunships) and form a consensus of symbiosis, where sniper rifle and sniper become one and the same in order to increase accuracy and response time, etc...

Bit it's a work night, so I'm gonna go sleepy time now rather than wax on about the potentials of software-enhanced snipers... be they the gun or the mobile platform unit.

People are lazy. Thats why we abbreviate words and make words shorter, create words, and create shorter versions of words. So we call sniper rifles snipers because we dont feel like saying the rifle part after everytime. We figure people would just you know, get the point.

More than the javelin, the CSR can be refered to as a sniper based on your logic as it recieves racial bonuses along with the collector AR and SMG and the AR has a description stating that a bond is formed between a collector and the gun. Given that all three weapons are of collector origin, it isnt too far fetched to assume that all three are symbiotic ( or parasitic ) and can be refered as sniper.

Having said that, not all of the guns are rifles in the sniper gun class, so sniper can be an acceptable acronym for refering the whole class without much ambiguity
