I'm just curious because even though I beat the original game, I havent played it in over a year.  This of course means that I dont have a save file to load into me2 and that would be okay if I didnt misplace the disk. So heres my concern and its more a of question than anything else.

I probably wont ever play this game again once me2 is released. Ive also already purchased the game when it was first released. With that said, I obviously dont want to spend to much on it. The EA store has it available for $10 which Im ok with and thats a very fair price, but Im concerned with the quality of the download speed and the fact that I need to have the download manager open at all times while playing for security reasons. Has anybody had any sucess with purcasing games from the EA store and downloading them? From what ive read the speeds are teribad.

Why in god's name does steam and d2d still have this game marked at $19.99 while the developer is selling it for $10 less? Im not going to spend $10 more for something I can get cheaper you know? but I also dont want to wait 6 days for the download to complete then have me2 sitting in my hands while forcing my self to complete a speed run of me1. ehhhh

Why don't you go to a local market?

I got ME1 from the EA store back in October and have no problems with it. If you create a desktop icon of Mass Effect by going to it's directory and making a shortcut of the launcher then you don't even need the download manager up while playing it. The download speed wasn't bad for ME1 or DAO as I bought them both from the EA Store and they downloaded within 2 hours. For 7GB+ games that isn't that bad. Hope this was useful.

I was thinking about doing this aswell but im pretty happy with the $10 ea price and im sure ill end up paying close to $25 with tax if i dropped by walmart ...thats if they even have it in stock still. theres not really many gaming stores in my area that support pc games. its all about the 360 and ps3 sadly.

2 hours would be around 1,0/1,5/1,6 ~ Mb/sec.

I know how you feel, I want it on PC have finished it on Xbox but I'd prefer it on PC as i'm getting 2 on PC, I can't find it at any of my local game shops either so the only way really that I could get it would be to buy it off ebay or steam. Granted I DO have a copy of it but it was burnt for me with Steam incorporated into it so I still have to purchase it from Steam. I only have a 12gig a month allownace on my internet (being from country Australia where net servce sucks) and itd probably take a week to download anyway....

Guess im gonig to have to pay the $20 US to play it.

Even then im not sure if my ME 2 version would pick up my Steam download saves seeing as im getting the actual physical copy.

Well I downloaded it and DAO on my laptop the other night and it was still fast even with a wireless connection, so I don't think the download manager will cap you.

I recently set up a topic on here about that very same thing. I mean the saves. Everyone said the steam version and the physical version/EA store version should have the files transferred properly. Steam usually only has a custom save file thing for games like Half-life and Half-life 2. A lot of games by Valve basically.

I downloaded ME on EA because I had 1 dollars and wanted the ME PC experience. It worked flawlessly. It took a while to download but no longer than installing a game normally takes. It's worth it. I never had the EA Download Manager up after I installed the game and it created a shortcut for me. No complaints. And you can uninstall and install with more ease than a hard copy game

185kb/s but im guessing thats just because my internet connection sucks (normal dsl). Looking at 11 hours to download it which im happy with. Obviously it could be quicker but thats not EAs fault. Overall it looks pretty solid so far.

The only thing im worried about now is how the game will run with having to keep this program open while playing it.

I bought ME 1 Steam version 10 days ago , and I was surprised to see that I got keys for BDTS and Pinnacle Station inserted in ME ( BDTS and Pinnacle Station weren't installed but keys where there and when I installed addons that keys where automatically used ) .

Possibly because the weakness built into Digital Distribution is the lack of Disks in case installation is corrupted now both d2d and steam automatically archive what games have been purchased on an account so that those can be uninstalled/installed at need.

I would be really suprised and shocked at the same time if they don't.

If you patch Mass Effect 1, it should run without the disc, provided you haven't uninstalled it.

yea its gone. only because i had to buy a new harddrive my old one is toast.

and yes i do think so because the ea store says i can redownload for up to a year or somethin idk i didnt read it all. i probably wont even play this game again once i get my save file. more than likely ill just speed through it to complete it by the 26th. its not like i havent beat it before Image IPB
