My (now-closed) poll. Thanks BSN. Image IPB

Charr's poem.

“Oh Blue Rose of Illium, let your roots dig deep into the hot soil of Tuchanka. Let our scorching sun and sheeting rain turn your supple beauty into strength. For if our love is to survive, it must grow thorns to pierce the hand of any that would uproot it!”

“Blue Rose of Illium, you have blossomed in a tower of glass and plastic. But beauty under glass is untested and weak. Where are your honored dead, to fertilize the ground that you might grow strong? On the rocky plains of Tuchanka, I will build you a garden from the bones of my ancestors.”

“Blue Rose of Illium, leave eternity unembraced and grapple in the glorious struggle that is us, here and now! I am speechless, not with blood rage, but with love, and I stand here, humble and mute, to offer you a home. Come to me, Blue Rose of Illium. Let our three hearts beat as two.”

I noticed on the poll, that people seemed very... "polar" on their opinions about this work... what's your opinion?

Charr and the Shaman from ME2 are the two characters that somewhat compel me to sabotage the genophage. There's something funnily appealing about their viewpoint.. As if life isn't worth living unless you survive through hardship and turmoil.

Charr doesn't really mean it himself, he is just stating the facts.

"Let our three hearts beat as two".

That one make me laugh. Way to take an idiom and twist it...

His poem in ME3 was probably the saddest part of the game for me after Mordin's deaths. So, if the goal of poetry is to convey meaning outside the literal interpretation of the words I say the guy did an A+ job.

Edit: By the way does anyone know who wrote Char's lines/poetry?

What do you mean? He sounds serious enough to me. Most of those Krogan in ME2 embrace a philosophy revolving around harsh survival and destruction. Charr included. When his girlfriend complains about Tuchanka, he tells her it'll build character. lol

Not sure, but I know Brian Kindregan supposedly wrote a lot of Tuchanka NPCs (as well as Grunt's recruitment mission).

I always broke them up in ME2 cause I figured she would not be happy long term with a Krogan despite her feelings for him, then I decided to be nice in one play through and put them together only to see how unhappy she is on Tuchanka and proving my point. Will continue to break them up. Nevertheless, playing the recording for her in ME3 was sad.

Yeah, but they eventually leave Tuchanka and resettle on the Citadel, and have a child together.

I don't know if I'd call him a poor fellow. He seems pretty happy, living in the muck. Who am I tell him it's crappy? :P

Same thing applies to the Shaman. When you question his viewpoint, he's surprised. "I thought you, of all humans, would understand, Shepard."

I personally ask a very similar question to Shepard himself in response to many of the bits of auto-dialogue he says in ME3.

Charr's one of them rare Krogans. He's a lover, not a fighter..... :'-( Why'd you have to end up in those Rachni caves?

Sounds a lot like you projecting onto the character, since it's never been stated that he's "a lover."

More or so, but that's how I view him. If he knows poetry and he knows how to woe and Asari, I'd say it qualifies.;)

Because it takes so much effort to woe a blueberry and call it a flower. An asari will literally sleep with anything.

I think since it was written by a Krogan, its entitled to at least some bonus points...
