There seems to be at least two camps of people who play the DA games. (I am speaking very generally so please for the sake of argument I understand that most people like parts of both so please don't yell at me.)

One, is those who truly love and are interested in the actual story line and drama of the events taking place. They tend to be very forgiving when it comes to technical aspects and are way more concerned with the interactions between characters and figuring out the plot and story line and thereby having a positive (or negative) affect on the history of Thedas. They also (generally) tend to like the romance options and also do their best to help their companions on their personal issues (quests) and they also will tend to do side quests that make the world around them better (or worse depending on who they are playing). This camp have people who generally will pay attention to how armour and weapons appear aesthetically to even the extent where they will actively look for stuff that "matches" the other stuff the character is wearing. This camp tends to approach their enemies as they come and often battle with a "off the cuff" method and will often improvise on the spot rather then spend a lot of effort and time on strategy ahead of time.

The second camp tend to be those who like playing the game for the actual "technical gaming" aspects. They demand great graphics, good fighting concepts and mechanics. These people put great effort into the their weapons and armour for strategic reasons. They tend to be more about playing to "win" and tend not to care too much about the storyline that doesn't deal will completing the conquests ahead of them. They tend to approach the romance and other personal story points with a "take or leave" it idealism and then only if they can take some sort of material or strategic award away from it. These people also put a lot effort into studying their enemy and bosses and formulating strong methods for defeating them. They tend to be putt off by anything in the game that is there for just fun and enjoyment as view it as a waste of time. They like playing the game for the battles and combat generally more than other aspects.

Like I said above most people have bits of both camps in them but if you had to pick which camp to you belong to? And do you think DAI will favour one group over the other overall?

I say both, mainly for the story and narrative but the "technical gaming" aspect is always appreciated. I The story is what i invest into the most though, i just love the thought of a charcter that is completey yours to make and mold, going on a Lord of the Rings scaled quest. Its great. Allowing so many choices for the player to decide really distinguishes each character. I look forward to see what other people create when the game is released to compare all of our inquisitors

Story stuff, anyone who plays BioWare games primarily for the graphics/gameplay/technological advances is doing it wrong.

Story stuff- usually keep games with good stories and replay them later. Gameplay is secondary for example GW2 good gameplay and crappy story- lost my interest.

I would say that I fit almost purely in the first camp. Story and characters are my primary concern as opposed to strategy and playing for the challenge. That isn't to say that I don't appreciate any of the technical aspects, I just have more appreciation for the things that are story oriented.

I've played a few games where the gameplay was interesting and challenging but the story was mere window-dressing. Needless to say, those are games that I've never completed.

Came for the story. Stayed for the different stories. The combat and tactics and equipment and logistics are fun extras.

I'm going to play DAI for the story, mostly. I love the romances, the characters, and the lore. Good graphics and good combat mechanics aren't necessary, but they are always a plus.

I am usually more concerned with the story than I am with the technical aspects of Bioware games, and DAI will be no exception.

I'm definitely a part of the first camp. Graphics has never been something I care about, I just want a great story and great characters and I'm good. Also, I never plan my battles out, lol, I just go in and fight. The only time I really try to plan my battles out is when I die a couple of times.

I'm a combination of both. Here for the story and lore. Along with wanting a good looking game that plays well too.

I play for the story, but bad gameplay can still really hurt the game.  And good gameplay help push it to greatness.

As you define it, I would definitely be in the first camp. As Nefla said, if you play DA for the graphics and gameplay, there is something wrong with you.

For me, the technical gaming aspects are a reason NOT to play DA. I mean, the tactics are supposed to make companions fight better while you control your own, but only the really gamer players even know how to make it work properly, because it's just so poorly done. The tactics in DA2 were about as "good" as in Origins, maybe a bit worse. It added new options/rules for the player to define how the characters not being controlled move, but BioWare took out the things that made the tactics as a whole, work.

When it comes to the story and such in DA, people claim they like it, but when there is a character they don't like, they bash on them, and throw roleplay to the wind. How many people can honestly say they only ever killed a companion or potential companion for the purposes of roleplaying a character? I do the opposite (rarely, if ever), letting a companion live, throwing roleplay away, but as Penny (from The Big Bang Theory) says "Love trumps hate."

I don't think its that clear cut. And there are plenty of camps.

I play to roleplay through the quests and story (among other things) but could live without the romance, or romance being such a big component, So there's that camp too.

I'm story driven but also don't want the graphics or combat to suck. Not obsessed with armor appearance either.

I mostly want overall quality and no weak areas. If some aspect of the game is done really well, I will enjoy it. If it's not, I won't.
