It's a dumb trend. Giant and White are way, WAY easier and much faster to complete, for all factions and kits. If you use a Recon Mine kit, it's even easier.
GIANT (and haz) + REAPERS = profit... all day long

Obviously you can't complete a Rio game without leaving the box, that is a given. However, only having to really deal with enemies 3 waves out of the 11 is teaching awful habits. When those people go into a normal game such as one I would host (U/U/P), they are nothing but dead weight since they really don't know how to deal with enemies.
As for the RPG scenario, that really shouldn't apply to the multiplayer of this game. What is the point of farming for credits if you have no idea how to really use the weapon or character that you will unlock? How long will people use the box before they are satisfied with what they have? I don't see how anyone could enjoy even a single match of doing that. Then again, I was around for the great FBW/Geth farming problem and I didn't do that at all which I feel helped progress my abilites quicker than a lot of others.
For the experience bit, you are right that it really just depends on how quickly someone is able to pick up on things. The problem with having 1-3 friends take a newer player into Platinum is that what do they do when those friends are not around to babysit them? They feel they can handle Platinum at first due to previous success thinking that most games may be the same way, but then they come across 2 more people just there for whatever credits they can leech for and 1 experienced player (if they are lucky, or they farm). None of them are any real help to the experienced player aside from maybe a revive or two or a missile or two from the one that had friends bring them in.
They would be better served brought into a Silver game where they can have some real success to start and not become over-confident in their abilities at the time. That isn't to say a player can't make jumps in difficulty rather quickly, but those cases are so rare that it should not be considered the normal thing to do.
At the end of the day they still get experience in dealing with enemies thats the main point. You have to know how or learn how to deal with platinum level enemies to finish a game so that is given too. As I said there are more effective ways of farming platinum or l2p on platinum this method is "ok" it isn't the best method available nor is it the most efficient but it still works.
In general the way that this game works is the more you play the more effective you become at dealing with enemies, solos, clutching or whatever. So just playing and surviving on platinum is beneficial on its own; having someone carry and teach another person the in's and out's in terms of platinum enemies, tactics and builds speeds up the process. That is a tried and tested method whether they are at an advanced level to be able to go off on their own like the "elites" do in platinum will depend on the person who is learning and the advice given to them.
To clarify when I am talking about beginning I mainly mean starting the platinum difficulty for the first time.

I rarely ever use juggy ... Klitsin, wth .. lol and I don't camp the box. re-read my previous statement where I said I use it if things get rough... doesn't mean I camp it the whole game lol
and if we play 50$ game, No GI, TGI, Or GT allowed. Lets do it, forsure.

The problem with this is that you really don't know how to or learn how to deal with Platinum level enemies. How many games do you think are failed when it gets to objective time? My guess would be far more than those that are a success unless there is a player in the game that really does know how to deal with enemies.

That is true to a small extent about the time thing. It may have been more true back when I first started out since not everything had been figured out. Now there are guides for everything and there are tons of players with that experience that can give you that knowledge early enough to shave off hundreds of hours of learning.
Where do you think the "elites" learned how to do most of this stuff? It wasn't just by jumping into a difficulty that they were going to be overwhelmed all the time. It wasn't by them relying on their teammates to get them through a game, because the reality is that most of the random teammates you come across will have no clue what they are doing and will spend the majority of their time in spectator mode. They learned how to do these things in the difficulty they could handle on their own without the need to hide the entire time or have their hand held before going into a higher difficulty.
They take their Platinum builds into say Gold and test them to make sure they can put out enough damage while surviving well enough to know that they can stay alive in a Platinum game as well. Enemy tactics do not vary too greatly from Gold to Platinum, there are just more boss enemies which require a higher damage output simple as that. You still kite enemies pretty much the same way, you don't typically go rushing into a spawn due to more enemies having the ability to sync kill or bring you down quickly from higher damage unless you go as a group that can make short work of them, and you don't allow yourself to be backed into a corner with no method of escape.
To just play and survive is not all that beneficial, since you likely make more work for someone else. Is that player really surviving or is someone keeping them alive? I can give advice, tactics, and builds until I am blue in the face, but at the end of the day if that player is not able to mimic what I do then what good is it to them? Unless they already have the general knowledge of how to kite, use of right hand advantage, and layout of the map are they going to be able to solo a wave should I get knocked out of a wave for some reason?
You will likely learn far more bad habits by going into Platinum in such a way then you would if you already know how to hold your own. If you were to take those habits you learned in a Platinum farming game into even an U/U/G game, I would dare say you would find yourself struggling since in most of the games I run it is very rare for teammates to stick together like you do in dedicated maps like Giant or Rio. When they do stick together, most of them tend to get overwhelmed because they don't know how to choose places with clear lines of sight and don't know when it is time to get out of the area because it is overrun. They tend to start revive circles until each and every one of them has bled out forcing someone like myself to solo wave after wave.
tl;dr: You should know how to survive on your own in a public Gold game before running a public Platinum game. If you can't handle U/U/G like that, chances are you will be in spectator mode even more in Platinum should you happen to find a lobby where the host runs U/U/P. Regardless of if you can go off on your own or not, you need to be tested enough in handling a wave or 2 on your own or failure will almost be a sure thing.

and b00g13, ive played with you ... you're really not even that good, like the rest of the BSNers who claim they go 250-300k per game, but when I play platinum with them, they go 70k, and get downed more times then a pug ..
What difficulty was it, and what kit was I playing?
