The only problem with Shotguns is that Shotgun Amp IIIs are rare as fuck.

Any shotgun can be used on platinum. The difference is how much you have to compensate with character build/player skill. I would say that the katana, disciple, and scimitar are probably the ones that you would most have to compensate with. I know someone could do it, but it would take a lot more effort than other shotties.

Katana and Scimitar are just meh in comparison to some of the other options. They are still shotguns and in the hands of a capable player they could be "viable" on platinum, but with the other choices we have, I would say those 2 guns need to stay on gold or below. Just my $0.02

Once you get the rare shotguns scimitar becomes useless.

Ran the Katana on the AIU yesterday for a few platinum matches. There may have been a little Jamison involved, but I did complete the challenge for that particular weapon in two matches.

There's a viable platinum build for every weapon in the game. Take a flamer, the talon engineer,
a powerful adept... and you're good to go.

Among shotguns, Scimitar sucks, I would even choose the katana over him.
