Is there a bad shotgun in the game?

LOL, I feel your pain, but with assault rifle rail amps. Even though I use shotguns a bunch, I always seem to get those rail amps replenished at the same/higher rate than I use them. Not so with assault rifle rail amps. I've got a buddy that we swear the store swaps the amps we want/need... he's got 52 Assault Rifle Rail Amp III's but can't get Shotgun Rail Amp III's to save his life... meanwhile, I never have under 30 Shotgun Rail Amp III's at any given time, but I have a grand total of 2 Assault Rifle Rail Amp III's. Hell, I've only got 4 Assault Rifle Rail Amp II's! Image IPB

Agreed - but it's kinda fun if you slap on Shock Trooper gear and a shotty amp with either disruptor or phasic ammo (since it fires a single slug it doesn't negate shield gate like most shotties)... and THEN use it on a regular human soldier.

I actually uninstalled the game on PC because I'm supposedly retired... and trying hard not to relapse.

You could easily just yell out, "Fury!" for every one. Even if you say you're using weapon builds, "viability" is a false subject, as everything is viable for everything. As long as an attack can reliably cause at least 1 point of damage, it is viable. Everything else is player compensation.

You can make a bad weapon work, but it doesn't make it not bad.

The Scimitar is the worst shotgun.  I have used it exactly once in this game, on Silver.  It felt weak even on that level.  It is a bad shotgun, and it's probably the worst Uncommon weapon.  Just because someone professes they can make it "Platinum viable" by slapping it on a Flamer-specced trooper or a Cain-spam Talon Merc or by using it as an ammo primer with a Drellguard or Slayer doesn't mean it's not a bad gun.  The Katana is also pretty bad.  The Eviscerator and Disciple are OK, but their real problem is that the Talon does exactly what they do, but twice as well.

It's a Wraith that has an extra shot and isn't quite powerful enough to OHK shielded mooks. ME2 version was sexier though.

Try it on the Salarian Infiltrator, with ED specced for max damage.  Use it like people used to use the Black Widow before the shield gate changes and Phasic rounds, except at closer range.  Cloak - ED - Shoot.  Put on Geth Scanner and Drill Rounds for wallhax, or use Disruptor rounds.

This one's processing unit is weak. Try: "No shotgun is bad"

GI, AIU or even a Volus can make any shotgun platinum viable.

You would really hate me. My lowest weapon consumable is 182 Pistol Rail Amp IIIs, followed very close by my 183 Assault Rifle Rail Amp IIIs.

On topic, I would say the Katana.

The Scimitar is basically useless on Platinum.  It has rapid fire but very minimal damage per shot.

Crusader arguably is the best shotgun in the game. Friend of mine cleans plat with a crusader like bronze. GI/ TSol,  high velocity barrel, shredder mod + warp ammo (phantoms).

On the other hand, the katana and a scimitar are starter bronze/silver weapons. You can make them work on gold/plat with a weapon specialist or as an ammo applicator but it is still painful to kill with them, esp bosses.

Scimitar is actually fairly decent but you're correct it sucks in damage. 

So let's look at what the weapon has going for it and try to work around the damage. It's high ROF and good proccing, highly accurate at range. So slap on disruptor ideally. The reason why disruptor is it has the largest AOE detonation, procs against every defense, stuns infantry well. To make this work we need a rapid spam detonator ideally with a modifier against some defense to get more damage with the tech burst out of this POS weapon. Something for armor would be nice as well.

Nope, as I said its not a bad gun. The aim is a bit wonky and the kickback per shot can be annoying but there is equipment to resolve most of that, but there are many shotguns that are far better.

Only shotgun I find useless is disciple. It's probably just the sound it makes, but it never feels like it's doing anything.

and yet I see others doing fine with it.......meh

Frag organic bleed damage is too good to pass up, expecially with the armor-damage evo, as was pointed out to me once upon a OnlyUseMeGI-time.  The only armored units it doesn't affect are Atlas, Prime, Pyro, and Cerberus Turret.

For me they are all bad except Wraith and Crusader, and even these are... not satisfying. Oh, and Scimitar is better than Katana.

I've Only recently returned to the Scimitar for my melee build Shadow.
Adding an Omniblade turns it into a very light sword, there's barely any need to actually shoot it.

Sometimes just need a couple of shots just to finish off an enemy.

*blinks* - you know, that had never actually occurred to me ... and my SI is a shotgun build, normally with the Raider or Piranha (used to be my go-to class for platinum).  :pinched:
