Well, there's a sequel due on the 26th, so see that.

I don't like that idea. Now, a Mass Effect tv show on the other hand...

I don't think it could be about Shepard thought, seeing as there isnt a truly canon version of him/her

Mass Effect is too open ended to ever pull off properly as a movie. Even if they got past that problem by selecting "Cannon" choices, it's just too long to do as a movie. TV series, maybe. But honestly I think it'd be a bad idea to take it out of the video game medium in to TV or Movies. It's just so perfectly suited to being a video game, it would lose a lot in translation.

Argh. Not everything that makes a good game makes a good movie. Mass Effect has a rather unoriginal plot (or at least, not an uninventive plot), that if strung together into a movie would lose the thing that made it interesting: the player's role. The reason Mass Effect worked as a piece of science fiction was primarily the players ability to jump into the world and change the course of the universe. You can't do this in a film, and the sorts of moral dilemmas and dramatic moments that work best in a game don't work best in a film. It is possible to create a work that is adaptable to both mediums, but Mass Effect is tied so strongly to the gaming medium that regardless of how many times reviewers use the word "cinematic" to describe it, the magic of Mass Effect is simply not compatible with the magic of film. It is possible to make a good film based on Mass Effect, but the odds that it would break the current rule of terrible movie>game/game>movie cross-overs is extremely low. I am reminded of how many people read a great book and think "this would make a wonderful movie." Most of the time, they're dead wrong.
I offer, as an example, Dan Brown. He writes books like a Hollywood blockbuster. And while many people enjoy them, they don't work in the novel format. Dan Brown is constantly fighting his medium to churn out a movie in print. As films, they still had more holes than a stencil, but far surpassed their original format. Something just don't cross-over well. Blockbuster-ness is one thing that is best left to films. Some thing are best left to games.

God it'd be like trying to turn Reality Dysfunction into a movie.
That aside name one movie based off a game that wasn't total dog water.

What's the difference between watching a Mass Effect movie and watching someone play Mass Effect as a game? Like realy. What's the appeal of having a film for a game like ME?
It's like the idea of a game that stacks up well as cinema is so novel to you, that you con't comprehend that it's already its own kind of cinema.

Only if it was directed by James Cameron or Ridley Scott with Bioware having alot of say about what happens in the fim.

A series along the lines of the new BSG would be far better suited for a universe filled with such nuance and complexity like Mass Effect.

Only if it was CGI, that way we can keep the voice actors.

and the digital actors. It's already its own kind of movie. Are people just posting their own replies and not even looking at others'?SkywardDescent wrote...

It has potential as a couple other games do. It just has to be done right. Any game can be turned into a movie, even if it totally changes the universe it's set in (Resident Evil). It could be a pretty good movie in it's own right, but not too good in terms of looking at it as a Mass Effect movie.

The ME Universe can already sustain itself without going down that sad and desperate route.

Seeing as how most gaming movies tend to suck rather hard, I'd rather not see one made. Then again if the Bioware staff were allowed to have a good amount of supervision over the production I could see it working.

A series would be better. Also, a spinoff story, not the main ME story. There's plenty going on in the Mass Effect universe.

If BW is heavily involved in guiding its direction, then sure...I have confidence that BW can help craft an excellent movie. But Uwe Boll, Michael Bay, McG, and many other directors had better keep their mitts off. >
