I think I've only ever been executed by a brute or scion twice or so, yet I was in a game the other day where someone was exectued twice in a row by a brute. How does this happen? Why are brute/scion executions so rare? I remember reading something about how the brute attacks you opens a window for an execution, but I can't remember it well.

Brutes and Scions are typically killed at range is why. Scions only sync kill after they've already done a melee attack.

A scion is in sync-kill mode after he tries to melee a target and will stay in that mode until he raises his arm cannon to fire. Even if someone/something staggers him out of the melee animation he is still capable of beating you into a bloody pulp.

Brute executions are uncommon because of their insane melee damage which can kill most characters in a couple of claws attacks, outside melee range they're helpless and get slaughtered.

Scions melee does a lot of damage too, but they have the bad habit to switch to grenades or pulse cannons quickly and kill you before you can be executed.

Paradoxically kits with higher DR or health/shields have better chances to get executed by them as they can tank their close range damage and survive only to be executed, krogans above all others.

Scions and atlas are slow and don't attempt to close to melee range. Brutes are usually killed before the close distance.

Atlas, Scions, and Phantoms follow a similar pattern. If an Atlas does a ground pound, it will execute you right after. Scions need to smack you first. Phantoms need to slice and dice you first. Banshees don't give no fuuuuuu....

Brutes tend to stagger people out of their own sync kill range, because it is tiny
by tiny, I mean you have to be closer than the brutes elbow to it's body, most sync killers ranges are far larger

Also, even if you are in the right place for a brute to sync you it will automatically fail 70% of the time, whereas most sync kills only fail between 20 and 30% of the time,

So not only is it hard to stay in their range, but they are more likely to just beat you to death before their sync kill works, but it is possible for back to back sync kills

One of the most spectacular scenes I've ever seen - brute scoring touchdown with Volus.

Banshees don't sync when they're not glowing.

Phantoms are so quick and sneaky that knowing their pattern isn't all that useful (to me, anyway).

But, if you kill the Brutes at range, you can't play matador!  Where's the fun in that?

I love doing this. I lose quite a lot though.

Nothing funnier than sidestepping a brute charge as a Jug.

I've only ever been executed by a Brute one time. I was sprinting for the LZ with just a few seconds. It must have just meleed someone else before I had line of sight on it. As I tried to sprint past to get in the circle, it did its quick grabsmash. I knew they were sync-kill units, of course, but I had never actually seen it to that point. It sort of startled me just how fast their move is when they actually do it.

Phantoms can sync straight off without prior warning especially when cloaked and when they sneak up behind you. Also they don't take kindly to being walked into by anyone trying to get round a corner in a hurry. Although Phantoms can be sneaky they are put to shame by banshees was running through one of the corridors on Glacier and boom one teleports through the wall on top of me instant sync ...

It's ridiculous. I know it's easier to side-step, but I always try to dodge backwards to test the limits. It never ends well.

I rather appreciate all of my squishy classes for this very reason. Many of my kits just drop like a stone if I do something stupid which has frequently saved me form sync kills that my hit and miss situational awareness misses the signs of. I figure if I'm going to suck at this just a bit, I might as well make it work in my favor.

And at the other extreme, playing as the Krolord is a good way of seeing the brute sync kill, for those of you who haven't seen it yet.

I once had a gold game where my krolord got brute-slammed 4 times!:pinched:

My mates found it quite amusing.<_<
