My interpretation of the EMS tables for the Extended Cut:

I know that it's known to almost everyone who does pay attention to EMS that you need at least 3,100 EMS to actually get the "breath of life" scene at the end of Perfect Destroy. But I've actually experimented with some of the EMS at lower numbers and it seems that the scale could be lowered more which is really frustrating for those who love to experiment with bad endings. This may not be accurate, but from my experience with the lower EMSs this what I've sum'd up.

Note: If you promoted too much in Multiplayer, you probably never have to worry.

EMS scale:

0 - 1750:
  • Destroy/Control is only available if you destroyed/saved the Collector base.
  • Destroy ONLY will result in Earth's devastation, and the Normandy Crew will not survive.
  • Control ONLY will result in Earth's devastation, but the Normandy Crew will survive.
  • Squad mates die on the run to the beam.
1760 - 2000
  • Destroy/Control will result in Earth's devastation, and the Normandy Crew will survive.
  • Squad mates die on the run to the beam.
2100 - 2300
  • Destory/Control will result in Earth being saved, and the Normandy Crew will survive.
  • Squad mates survive the run to the beam.
2400 - 2600
  • Destroy/Control will result in Earth being saved, and the Normandy Crew will survive.
  • Synthesis is unlocked.
  • Squad mates survive the run to the beam.
2700+
  • Destroy will result in Earth being saved, and the Normandy Crew will survive.
  • Shepard survives Destroy.
  • Control will result in Earth being saved, and the Normandy Crew survives.
  • Synthesis will result in Earth being saved, and the Normandy Crew will survive.
  • Squad mates survive the run to the beam.
I've unlocked the "Breath of Life" at 2760 EMS which means the scale is much lower than expected, and this is with Anderson being shot by the Illusive Man. Which proves that Anderson does not affect your EMS unlike pre-Extended Cut.

Your experience may differ....

these are the numbers I've done it with
1750 - 1900 squadmates die on beam run
below 1750 squadmates die on beam run and the door to the Normandy doesn't open
above 1900 squadmates survive bean run
2800 synthesis is available
3100 breath scene

Really? That is so weird. My scale is much lower, and these possibilities were available. And thanks for the reminder of squads being killed. I'll add that, but sometimes the forum might screw up the post....

Sometimes the game doesn't display your multiplayer assets. The game does count them for the ending, but they don't always appear in the war room screen. Could be misleading. It's happened to me a few times.

I had my EMS at 100%, and I did make sure I pressed the Galaxy at War button to update the EMS. And then I headed into Priority: Earth with these EMSs. My N7 Spec Ops asset was only 350, so it's not really much to tip the scale, but I did make sure I updated the Asset menu before I recorded my results. 2,760 has been the lowest I've gone, and Perfect Destroy was available.

Yeah, I'm talking about the N7 Spec Ops asset. Sometimes it doesn't count it, even if you update.

Did you play with imports? I believe the EMS required for the breath scene is lower if you just play ME3.

No, I played with imports...I never play ME3 by itself or with ME3 Genesis even though I have it....
