It is hardly surprising that nobles have the best physical form, skills, and talents. However, because of the haphazard way that pile of bronto dung they call a ruleset is thrown together, picking any other origin also means delaying character progression by three to four levels. For example, Dalish elves have the least aptitude of all for becoming archers, and Dalish elf rogues have none at all.
So the human noble origin wins in every respect, whether you look at the story or at the aptitude as a rogue or warrior. Only Dwarves nobles can compare, but while their origin story is surprisingly deep and involved, its handling in the later game lacks the coherence of the Cousland pup who eventually gets to stick the family sword into Howe.

While I usually don't play the CE, I'll note that he has a legitimate reason to murder Howe in the face too.

I play human noble so I can marry Alistair. OKAY? I'm not ashamed. ![]()
I know there's a mod for that ending but I don't know if it'll conflict with other mods...
God I wish I could marry him as a friggin' mage.
But anyway even for DAI I will probably start as a human. Just to relate more to the character.

If that is the origin you like, that is the origin you should play. ![]()
Myself, I've come to really like the Zevran romance. The ZDF mod really cleans it up so it makes a great deal of sense.

Imagine if they had a kid, father a templar and mother a mage lol, that would be too funny (and I hear ya on the mage aspect, my mage is my canon playthrough, though it's a guy and he romanced Morrigan, so I didn't have that problem. He's currently raising a baby old god with her in whatever land that fancy mirror led to).
As for the OP comment, you're not alone. I always seem to gravitate towards humans too, and not just in Origins but in every RP game I play. I find I connect better to the character because it's the same species as me, so I'm able to get into the story more (that's also why I typically only play male characters since I'm a guy).

Yeah? What sort of things do the mods do for Zevran? I never really connected with him before... might be different this time around..

It fixes way too many things to list in a single post (including dialogue and gameplay not even remotely related to Zevran). If you play on the PC I would highly recommend it. Check it out here http://www.nexusmods...gonage/mods/928

That's the same reason why I always choose human. When I realized you couldn't marry him as a mage, I went back and restarted as a human noble once again.

It's good to be the King/Queen. You also start with 2 levels in Combat Training, which is a significant advantage to begin with. Dwarf nobles can start with it too, but that family is a bit disfunctional.

Maybe because other model presets are too ugly?
It took time for me to manage vanilla Elf and Dwarf than Human
I'm guessing you play as a female human, because the male human presets look like the results of horrible Nazi experiments on cheek gaunt.

It could be because it's the easiest character to relate to...with you also being human and all.
For me, I only play one character in Dragon Age and Mass Effect...and it's a character based on myself...because it's the easiest character to relate to in a role playing game.
I would rather just watch a movie or tv show about different characters instead of trying to roleplay a completely different person.
That's just me though...to each their own.

I never play as male...i try once but not even get past castle Cousland...i just can't
I hear ya. I don't use mods, so I have a really hard time liking any male character I create. They look too weird to me, so when I'm not forcing myself to play a male human just so I can romance Morrigan, I normally play as a female human or female Dalish elf. The male voice acting in DA2 prevents me from playing that gender, so I'm always a female character. Lol I have fun though.

I never play as male Hawke...never
I tried so hard one time, but I just couldn't do it. Creating male characters was fun, too, but the voice acting made me sad.
I really like the voice acting for Fem Hawke, so everything was okay.

Yes Fem Hawke is very nice, but for me she more suited for sarcastic character, not the other two
I've never tried the sarcastic approach, but have heard numerous times that it's great. My favorite is her aggressive/direct approach towards people I don't mind upsetting. Otherwise, I like to use her as diplomatic/helpful.

Ha! I don't do that because if it was really me in world of Thedas I would get face paint and tattoos, All symbols representing support for mages and I'd go full time freedom fighter because I have freedom for all mindset. But that's not the case and roleplaying is fun at times. Creating a character that does not share your views can help you understand people who don't share your views. I'm as pro-mage as it gets yet I understand why someone can be pro-templar because I roleplayed one.
Besides I find lawful characters to be boring. We get enough of that in real life. Time to be the bad girl, who saves the world and damns the consequences and falls in love with whoever she likes. For example someone like Anders and they become fugitives together. MUCH more exciting and interesting than the boring good ones. This is not middle ages, I don't want an "epic" story where pure good fights pure evil. It should be much more complicated than that.
This is related to not being able to play something other than human. Being able to roleplay your character helps with playing him/her even if they are not human.

Yeah CE and HN have the most reasons to want to stab Loghain & Howe in the face.

hehe... I mostly play other races / other gender precisely because they are not me in any way. Roleplaying that I am me ? well, one time and that's it... I find trying to think and make decisions like other people than me is fun

Honestly, I prefer to play as other races/genders/whathaveyou simply because of relatability. If I just go for a human male every single game and RPG, eventually I stop viewing them as anything other than a current avatar, and I become deeply disconnected from the whole thing. Oh, my nephew was killed? Well, I'm not really thinking from my Noble's perspective, so really my whole family can go choke to death on lemons for all I'll care.
What a way to go, though.

It might not be that bad-but if not it's close. You really have to work pretty hard with the creator to make a decent looking male human.
