This is a development log for a new project I'm calling "City-State", which is basically just a set of placeables that are mostly of an urban nature. These are partly to add some new models for a campaign of mine that has multiple cities, and also just for fun. I hope you enjoy the results.

To start with, I needed a port city placeable for the overland map. Here's my first attempt:

I think it turned out okay. The roof tops are tintable and the model can be viewed from any side. I extended the sides down below the water level so it should work on an uneven surface. Do you see any obvious problems I need to address?

Nice addition. The only thing I see is the docks look a little odd. Look more like crooked teeth than docks. :)

Okay, I'll shrink the base of the docks so they are more rectangular and see if that helps. I'm also going to try modifying several roofs so they can be a different color. Unfortunately the tintable selection is a little limited on the texture file.

Ed.: Yeah... that's better.

On to the next one. ^_^

Extra credit if you can identify this edifice... :)

Unfortunately, there's a little bit of tiling visible. But hopefully that won't be obvious from the OM view.

I need to ask this in advance: does anybody know if there is a NWN2 hak pack with a set of drywall placeables, of the form you'd find in medieval Europe? I would like to include sloped pieces, broken sections, gate openings, crossing steps, and so forth.

It would need tinting I think, are you looking for a yorkshire moors type wall ?

Much like that, yes. I think there's a decent texture for it in the game materials; I just wanted to see if I would need to make one or if it is already available.

Did this forum just stop working?

Nope. I just can't edit my messages. Hmm...

Something happened yesterday where the text box didn't appear in this site's editor, so I was unable to post a reply or edit a message. It seems to be working now. Shrug.

Not sure what that is about?

I googled drystone walls and there were a lot of decent textures that you could use in images.Getting a vertical and horizontal rolling repeat texture might be tough.

My texture packs (especially the exterior one) have plenty of drystone walls designed for tileing/repeating. They're not labelled "drystone wall", but they look like what I see in google images.

The model in the last picture looks like it would work well in a Underdark overland map.

I wish I knew how to create models, or had the patience to teach myself.

Okay, thanks. I'll give it a perusal and see if there's one that is just the right fit.

That's okay, I don't seem to have the patience to stick with building a module all the way to the end. ^_^

These things usually take about a week (at most) for me to finish up the models I've been building. Still trying to improve my skills though; compared to some of these guys who do the training videos, I'm painfully slow.

Personally I find it helpful to find decent illustrations that I can use as models. The somewhat typical wizard's tower below was modeled after this pic. (At left are back and front views, with the existing OM Tower at right for comparison.) It's not a perfect match, but then you can't see much detail from the OM anyway.

The earlier model is taken from an old D&D article. :)

I would love to have that model at a non map scale.

I would benifit from a window or two perhaps or is that planned?

I could add barred windows, but you likely wouldn't be able to see them from the OM. Unfortunately you can't see a lot of fine detail.

At a non-OM scale in exploration mode, I suspect players would have trouble seeing the full height model except at a distance, or maybe a hill. But maybe I could give it a go at some point.

Out on a crag in the lonely moors is a tower of chaotic sorcery and power; or at least this is my attempt to depict such. Hopefully it looks at least a little evil. The style is influenced by the Daedric towers in Oblivion.

Looks evil. Also the other things make me think drow because of the purple. Is that bit tintable and tinted that color?

I like tintable models, so I've been trying to include a little on each one. The purple in the Ironfang Keep is tintable, as are the red roofs in the wizard's tower. In the above, the red arm tips and the bricks with the white mortar are separately tintable.

A few more stock OM placeables:

At left is a haunted barrow mound, accompanied by two road-side shrines. The shadowing on the mound looks a little odd--not sure why. I think I need to add a spikey, evil shrine or two.
