Why does Anders blame himself if you're his friend?

He did just kinda blow up the Chantry.
On a more serious note- with the Rival path, Hawke pretty much tells Anders he's a ****** and shouldn't trust Justice. With Friend, you moreso convince him what he's doing is right and he should reconcile with Justice.
Rival- he fights with Justice but can't do anyway.
Friend- he accepts Justice more readily and does the bombing with a crapload more clarity and will.

Biggest confusion of DA2: His attitude towards blowing up the Chantry. If you're his rival he blames his actions on losing the battle against Justice. If you're his friend, he blames himself for his actions....
Because Anders is still Andrastian (just look at his debates with Merrill, where he argues with her because he believes in the Chantry's teachings about Spirits and Demons), and he only disagrees with the Chantry's treatment of mages - in Awakening and main Dragon Age II, he even talks about the fable of the corruption of the Golden City by the Magisters as something he believes in. As a religiously Andrastian man, it's not surprising he would have regrets over destroying the Kirkwall Chantry.

Where did exactly Anders show regret for the Chantry/Elthina in friendship?
Never said he regreted it. He merely takes responsibility for his actions.

Well, you used 'blame' in your post, which lead me to believe you think he feels regret. But I was mostly referring to Lobsel's post.rasloveszev wrote...

Maybe he needed to do it in his mind, but he hurt a -lot- of people. Many for whom he cared. If that's not cause to blame yourself then I don't know what is.

Shouldn't this thread be in the DA2 section?
Well, shouldn't I be able to acess DA2 forums if I registered the game?

Let's also not forget that by blowing up the chantry he also exposes a lot of people to real and serious danger. Mages, his friends, innocent guards and civilians and the people who were in the Chantry itself.

I generally associate 'blame yourself' with having regrets. While it's possible that Anders might feeling regret, I don't recall that he expressed it in DA2.Sir JK wrote...

If you go to Anders' wiki page the devs/writers confirm what I just said and there is also this banter which happens before destruction of chantry:
Anders: There is justice in the world.
Isabela: Is there? You want to free the mages. Let's say you do, but to get there, you kill a bunch of innocent people.
Isabela: What about them? Don't they then deserve justice?
Anders: Yes.
Isabela: And then what? Where does it end?
Isabela: It's like a bar brawl. People are continuously pulled into the fray, and nobody remembers why it started.
Isabela: Justice is an idea. It makes sense in a world of ideas, but not in our world.

He lays no blame on anyone, not even Justice. He takes all the blame, and fully expects to be executed, and is surprised if Hawke decides to spare him.
I think it's a little complicated. He blames himself, but he doesn't regret what he did. He expects Justice to be served and to be executed. This is made clear based on what he says, like giving away his pillow to Varric before the end of the game.
