This may be too much off the point, but at times, I think the writers wrote more for themselves/and made the simple assumption that other people are as privy to all the data or sentiments as they are. This goes for how they viewed Shepard as a character too - his/her themes, the loyalities and friendships, etc.. What you get in the end is autodialogue and lack of exposition at points.
