How will we be able to trust BioWare & Dragon Age: Inquisition's reviewers now?

Link: gamerant.com/electronic-arts-secret-youtube-next-gen-advertising/

Now, it appears the floodgates have opened, and more YouTubers are coming forward to reveal a dark side of the Let’s Play video making community. The latest report suggests Electronic Arts deployed a similar promotional campaign for their products – paying YouTubers to record positive videos – and also forced the video makers to keep the agreement secret.

Talk about cunundrum.

All those positive "Dragon Age" and "Mass Effect" reviews were paid off?

Your post needs to be edited. I'm not quite sure what the whole thing says.

oh looks better now. What I can say is if you don't trust the reviewer, then watching just the play though itself might help.

Yes, yes, we know. EA's evil....However, I don't believe Bioware would let this sort of thing happen. That being said, I trust reviewers like LadyInsanity and Gamermd83 to do the game justice, and review it well.

Secondly, I am a firm believer in reviewing a game for oneself, rather than trusting game review sites.

this is not a new tactic and more companies use it than just EA. most people who get the chance to play a game for the sake of reviewing it before it is released is usually screened to make sure that they won't have any poisonous remarks about it.

I do not know. I am a little concerned.

When "Dragon Age II" was first promoted, EA/BioWare placed reviewer quotes on the main site.

How can anyone trust those paid critic quotes?

Its the first time they publically admit to using such tactics.

I rarely use Youtube to judge if i get a game or not to be honest.
And many of the 'more official' review sites, gamespot shouldn't be to biased about increased revenue from youtube views

If you think about this logically, BioWare/EA could be paying off 1-up, Gamestop, etc... Its not limited to YouTube videos.

I hope someone from BioWare can clarify their stance.

I'm confident that DA:I will be a good game, but I'm still waiting for unbiased reviewers like AngryJoe to tell me what's the game is really like.

LadyInsanity and Gamermd3 are good reviewers too, but they are obviously biased towards DA and might gloss over the faults of the game.

I have a very positive vibes about DA:I ,but trusting any reviewers other then people that bought the game for themself is bad.
You want to be sure? Don't preorder, don't spoil yourself with youtube bits from the game - read what ordinary people say on the net.

I think if you truly, truly hated DA2 and ME3 then BW is simply no longer the company for you. They are not going to backtrack and try to create a game that resembles games they made several years ago. They are a pretty progressive company, and they are a franchise that favors writing, character, and narrative over other traditional aspects. If you don't like that, you probably won't like DA:I.

If you're so on the fence about whether or not to buy a game that your purchase of that game hinges on the LP of a YouTuber, then I think you should probably just wait until your own friends have played it and/or it's in the bargain bin.

Sure, mock a widely held sentiment long enough and it might go away.

I always think reviewers are lying and never never ever base my gaming options on reviewers. I buy games that I think I might like. If I don't like them, well then It was my money. I like story driven, choice driven, roleplaying games where I can play as my own gender. Games with female protags are few and far between, even fewer when they're rpg style. So I keep tabs on these types of games -- The Elder Scrolls Series, most games that come out of Bioware... etc.

I buy them, and play them, and if they don't tickle my fancy well, then I move on :P Which means I'll be pre-ordering DA:I because its the type of game I like to play. And zero amount of bad or good reviews are going to dissuade me. Because other peoples opinions aren't my opinions.

Take Mass Effect 3 for example. When people ask me if its worth picking up, I say ," Mass Effect 3 is a beautiful and fantastic game, minus the last hour of game play. So if you want the full experience and don't mind the last bit being kinda ****ty then yes absolutely" and then I say "but play the other games first"

There ARE people who hinge a games worth, good or bad, on those last 5 minutes - hour etc. And there are people who don't. I'm not bothered if the last 5 minutes of a game is lackluster, so long as all of the rest of it is worth the journey.

I wasn't mocking it. I wholeheartedly agree that EA's completely evil. But complaining about it 24/7 won't change that.

This highlights the dangers of crowdsourcing your opinion. But we all should have known that already.

I agree with this. I made the mistake of reading and watching reviews of Mass Effect 3 that it took me forever to even pick the trilogy up. A lot of people made the game seem like total crap so I never got it. I got it a few weeks ago and absolutely love it, that will be the last time I listen to anyone about a game. I'll be pre-ordering DA:I as soon as I'm able to.

I actually have some hope for EA and DAI.  Maybe, MAYBE, the higher-ups of EA realized after DA2 that they need to respect the guys at Bioware and their development timelines.  They did allow an extra year of development time for DAI which allowed the inclusion of other races as PC and who knows what else.  When it is released, if I'm not mistaken, DAI will have had nearly as much development time as DAO (4 years vs 5 years).  Hopefully we will get a polished and immersive game.  I am cautiously optimistic.

The only person who can tell you if the game is worth your money is you.
