Easy, don't make a decision based on YouTube reviews.
How will we be able to trust BioWare & Dragon Age: Inquisition's reviewers now?

As with any review, (which is just a subjective opinion, after all) you have to consider the source.
"Let's Play" was hardly one I trusted before this story, and just got tossed in the "don't bother" pile.

If the video's actually a walkthrough, who cares if the maker was paid off or not?

Easy peasy.
*motions Bioware to come closer*
Here's the best way to get a good interviewer.
You send me the game early, I'll play it all the way through, then I'll post a review of it here on the forums.
IT'S BRILLIANT!!!

Sheesh.
I want to say something cutting about you being a fool for ever thinking you could trust gaming "journalism," but I'll just say "lol."

You don't! You play the game yourself and make your own judgement. People who rely on reviews can not think for themselves, so they allow others do it for them! The only time that I read a review is after I have finished it.

I don't trust anyone besides myself when figuring out if I want to buy a game or not, for nobody looks at a game exactly like I do and if you put any faith in an anonymous person on the internet you will be disappointed.
That article is about how Microsoft did it and somehow an EA marketing campaign was used as an example about them doing it with this disclaimer.
That article is about how Microsoft did it and somehow an EA marketing campaign was used as an example about them doing it with this disclaimer.
The one key difference between this campaign and Microsoft’s Xbox One campaign is that EA did not explicitly require the video makers avoid disparaging language about the games. That doesn’t mean it isn’t implied, but at least the agreement doesn’t outright mention anything in that regard.

They were not all paid off.
And all companies pay people to put a positive light on their products in social media now days.
IMO it is fair because there are people out there who will HATE anything about a franchise just because it exists esp games like Dragon Age.
Because of its liberal views on certain social issues and their irrational hate of DA2 a lot of people have a real agenda of "let's bring down Dragon Age" and EA because of some of its anti-customer policies. The truth is there is A LOT of hate out there directed at EA and Dragon Age that has nothing to do with the quality of the games and this is one way they can turn back the tide.
Hopefully DAI will be so good that all the negative crap will go away anyway.

Christ on a ******, man! It's a game... It's good publicity for them to pay youtube folks for good reviews. Sit back relax and go to more than one source if your so inclined. Bottom line is people will like it or love according to their own viewpoint regardless of good press. DA has always been fun for me and they make the kind of RPG games I enjoy playing at EA. Good luck OP. If you shell out the money I hope you enjoy the game. Don't get so twisted up about a game that's not even out yet. You'll give yourself an ulcer LOL.

Easy solution: you play the game yourself and decide if you like it or not.

Yeah, it becomes rather annoying when you can't trust even "independent" reviewers on youtube.
My solution is to watch more than one review, and to watch the videos posted by less known reviewers, smaller chance that someone paid them off this way.
(I rather liked Angry Joe, but at some point I begun to have some doubts regarding his honesty.
No, he is not lying, at least I didn't see anything like that, just a feeling I got that sometimes he is switching to kid gloves.)

Honestly, I never pay any real attention to reviewers. When it comes to games, there have been quite a few that have gotten negative reviews but I've really enjoyed playing them. Alternatively, there have been some that have gotten really positive reviews by reviewers and players alike that I just did not enjoy.
In regards to trusting Bioware, my personal experience is that Bioware has never led me wrong. Yes, that does mean that I even liked those infamous titles, DA2 and ME3. As a result, I still trust them implicitly.
As for you, you simply have to decide which reviews you trust or if you trust Bioware enough to take that leap of faith... Unless you happen to have a Gamefly description or Bioware releases a demo.

@OP:
Consider the source. If California Literary Review makes a review of DAI, I will be inclined to trust it as being meaningfully informative (I never expect authoritative. I am the only possible authority for my own enjoyment of games). While I think they still missed points that needed to be mentioned, good and bad both, their review of ME3 hit the nail on the head like no other and even dared to call reviewers "inept" who didn't take the primary problem into account in their reviews.

Not sure why anyone would trust another person's opinion whom you didn't know anyway. Reviewers are only as good as the reviews they put forward. If you read a review and had a similar experience they gain trust.
If you read a review and have a completely different experience with the game, then they lose credibility. Stick to reviewers who have built up your trust.

Do not trust reviewers in the first place, as this is a fairly well known tactic. However, I have seen my trust earned with Bioware over the years, and I plan on getting DAI despite of what the pros, gaming sites, etc have to say.

Every company has it's own promotional "boosters" but there are also equal amount of honest reviewers. Point is that again, those reviewers can only give their own opinion.
Most reviewers thought DA2 was a good game, and honestly it started great. Problems manifested themselves when we reached a bit deeper into Kirkwall first year. First elf was like... okey... you are rendered like a box, you weren't finished. Second was once you started noticeing all dungeons are one exactly the same dungeon.
I'll be honest, storyline wasn't terrible as many people thought. I actually liked a life of one normal guy who turns into a hero. Little lack of choices was the issue, constant repeat of same dungeon, but always the same big dungeon (even on minimap you could always see it is just a part of one huge dungeon) was a bigger issue. Worst thing you always knew, where quests were (little peninsula outside of Kirkwall should have been leveled under the water if you ask me).
If you look at DA2 DLC-s, and if you think how game could have been like the DLC-s all the time... well, game would have been good then (outside of badly rendered elves).
To be perfectly honest I myself have to give the game a passing grade, storyline was good imo, dynamic and interesting, fighting sistem wasn't my cup of tea but there was nothing really wrong with it. Bugs weren't that huge, so in the overall look of the game, elven rendering and constant same dungeon brought the grade down to a passing sort. I'd personally give it a 58/100 objectively, as a Bioware and dragon age fan however I personally had to give it a barely 35/100. But that is not an objective note, just a personal sort.
So would you believe if I wrote a review and gave the game 58/100. Maybe you wouldn't mind all the problems with it and you'd say, sure solid review, or you would be like me and be pissed, giving the game 35/100 and say how I dared to give the game 58/100.
Same happened to ME3. In retrospect, game is fantastic. It felt right and emotional throughout the entire game. You lived the game, felt it, felt every death, all the pain of not beeing able to help. As a game till the end you could give the game 90/100 easy. Ending came... (original ending mind you) and it left us all empty.
Most reviewers gave the game 90+/100. Did the game itself deserve it? Yes. Did we deserve that ending? Hell no and I couldn't force myself to finish with all my other Shepards cause of it.
As objective reviewer I have to give the game 90/100, as a ME franshize fan I couldn't give the game a passing grade cause of the insulting ending with buy more DLC final message.
Again you have a problem here. As a random person who didn't play first 2 parts and is new to the world, ending would be a bit underperformed but nothing really problematic and my 90/100 would be perfectly normal. To anyone who "lived" the games made a hate of such reviewers.

One thing I DO know... Metacritic is a garbage site for reviews as there is literally NO way to tell if the people writing reviews have actually played the game more than 5 minutes.
