It's still a douchebag tactic though, like Ubisoft showing tech demos in place of real game play.

Wait, what are you talking about here?

Cause for the last two years, the only ones I watched E3, Ubi showed actual gameplay in all of their games, and especially their new IP reveals--as opposed to other companies.

Was this before that?

Don't play coy. You know as well as I do devs will showcase visuals that won't actually make it into the game.

Yes but can you give an example of Ubisoft doing so.

Angry Joe Show.

I enjoy Angry Joe's rants. He's quite objective in his reviews - DA2, ME3, Rome 2: Total War, Fable 3, XBone were all spot on. He's also a Bioware fan imo, and he's not that critical when reviewing their games. I remember Joe's DAO review - "Go buy it."

Rock, Paper, Shotgun is a good place to check too.

I checked his review of DA2 after I played the game.  He didn't just randomly bash and hate on it; he was fair and brought up some good points.  AJ didn't give the game an overwhelming glowing review, but he did recommend fans to go check it out.

If anyone is curious about Joe, that review isn't a bad place to start.

His DAO or ME3 reviews are good examples too.

And this is why I like him. If the game is bad, he'll tell you the game is bad and if it's good he'll tell you that also. He's not a game basher, or a payed reviewer. Joe is a real gamer who will tell his fans the truth about a title.

His style takes some getting used to, but I've watched two of his reviews, and they were spot-on. In spite of what his moniker might suggest, he's also fair and doesn't withhold a recommendation for just any flaw.

I don't trust anyone besides myself when figuring out if I want to buy a game or not, for nobody looks at a game exactly like I do and if you put any faith in an anonymous person on the internet you will be disappointed.

That article is about how Microsoft did it and somehow an EA marketing campaign was used as an example about them doing it with this disclaimer.

The one key difference between this campaign and Microsoft’s Xbox One campaign is that EA did not explicitly require the video makers avoid disparaging language about the games. That doesn’t mean it isn’t implied, but at least the agreement doesn’t outright mention anything in that regard.

Occasionally it sounds like people people are planning to invest their next 10 years income to buy a house, not some salary of few hours working worth computergame.

Rent or borrow the game from a friend if you're worried. Problem solved.

Hopefully, once installed then, it doesn't have "checking-in" DRM that locks it to use on his/her machine.

Yes, I know, "play it at their house".

I know games are not a car or a house. But they review movies too, even though seeing a bad one only wastes 2 hours of your life (if you don't walk out) and will only cost you $10.

There's a reason. Bad movies .... "what is seen cannot be unseen".

If Zero Punctuation recommends a game, it has to be worth buying. Other than that, I haven't found reviewers to be very helpful. It's hard to uide faults in a blind Let's Play, though.

Long story short. You don't trust any one reviewer; you look for (good) bad reviews as well as listening to the positives and then make your own mind up.

I like Yahtzee. I may not always agree with his ultimate opinion on a game (but then again it can be hard to tell if he likes a game or not) but he highlights a games good and bad points, is honest and doesn't get bogged down in trying to score a game. Usually I totally agree with his points; and he's funny. What else do you need?

Firstly I avoid all the "big" game reviewers, since these are mostly just propaganda channels despite them saying otherwise. The ME3/IGN marriage was obscene proof of that.

I do watch reviews on Youtube, but only from a select few reviewers who I know to have an objective point of view. How I know? By following their channels and watching what they do. Another thing you can do is purposely go and look for criticism and see if these people have a point.

But man, there are some ****ty reviewers on youtube... people who are such fanboys that they'd write a glowing review on the basis of being mentioned somewhere. These are the people you can expect to take that money and think they're professionals.

First of all never trust a single IGN review. IGN are 100% COD fanboys. Second I think this is what happend with prototype 2. That sold more than MW3 in the first month but It "Did not become popular enough" But what really happend was reviewers were giving the game bad reviews. And let me tell you that game was incredible. But because all the reviewers who were clearly lying in their vids keep giving it bad reviews it did not get enough fame. I am afraid this will happen with DAI. Do not trust any reviewers not matter how honest they seem. Play the demo, watch a walkthrough, or just buy the game and try it yourself.

I rarely use Youtube to judge if i get a game or not to be honest.
And many of the 'more official' review sites, gamespot shouldn't be to biased about increased revenue from youtube views

they rely on advertising, so slamming a game made by a major advertiser like EA is a bad idea for continued prosperity.

Okay. Here is a thing you can rely on.

Go to Metacritic but ignore the scores.
Look at what people said about the game.
Look for both frequently occuring criticisms and frequently occuring praises of the game.

If you're only interested in average scores Metacritic will be unhelpful.
If you're interested in what both professional and non professional critics have to say about the game, then Metacritic is very useful.

Also one more thing.

If you trully feel genuine hatred towards Bioware, I strongly doubt you will be able to enjoy any future offerings from Bioware.

Ah, Metacritic. Bioware employees also write glowing reviews about Bioware games there, giving 10/10 scores. Just saying.
