I have just had my first , many times, pug based games...

1-3: this is somewhat entertaining... But no one is speaking...

4-6: I could use a joke right now or a drunk guy atleast...

6-10: What am I even doing here.... Common man... over 10 games on PC i had 2 persons actually saying something :D

This is the first time that i have played with pugs only in a long long long time... and i must admit this game is dull without friends :s

Am I the only one thinking this way?

People very rarely talk in PC matches. That is just how its always been. Though I do agree its more fun with friends.

Sometimes people talk if you speak up first. It does help to be a girl, though.

Being a relative newb to pc ME3MP, I had noticed that most people who have mics never speak. But, I disagree. If you're playing with friends, usually everybody knows what they're doing and that can get downright boring after a couple matches. I need the random clusterf... ridge of pugs. The unexpected.

Actual use voice chat does seem pretty rare... but then, I'm sticking to Bronze and occasionallllly Silver for now.

I've heard static-y VC that seemed to be cut off or otherwise incomprehensible, but I don't know whether that's because of any dodginess in the comms code, or whether the person just had a terrible microphone.

Had to hold my tongue dealing with a Shield Boost spammer who managed to lock my weapons three times in the same round (escorts, harder to justify keeping distance). I figured that with 17K+ CPs, he probably already had heard about the SB bug and simply didn't care that he was screwing with other players, instead of being merely unaware and innocent.

I agree, sometimes people are just hesitant to start the conversation. I haven't encountered that problem, but perhaps the PS3 crowd is different. I think friendliness is a bigger factor than gender. Start yapping away even if no one responds, it's still more fun than complete silence. ^-^

Predictably, it never is.

I wouldn't go so far as to say the game isn't fun without friends but it is a lot more fun when I'm playing with friends.

I don't think most people would still be playing if not for friends.

I highly disagree. Friend games are less interesting than pug games, at least for me. Playing with friends can be very predictable & controlled, which gets boring very quickly. Every game with pugs is different and for me that feeling of not knowing what to expect makes playing with pugs much more fun and interesting.

I've pugged alot, without friends and love the playing the game even without using a mic. Granted, it's always more fun playing with friends :)

It really doesn't. That's all the wrong kind of attention.

To add, people don't talk because they have nothing to say. Unless you're having a conversation, the only things you can really offer is comentary, advice no one will listen to, or a symphony of "Bullshit!" and "****!". If you speak up first, you're putting a conversation on the table, and people will be more inclined to take that offer than trying to initiative it themselves.

Although in my experience conversations with PUGs always circles around to talking about how many ways whatever game your playing is bullshit. :P

I prefer just a friend for Gold.. if we get 3 or a full lobby we are gonna play plat because there isn't enough enemies on Gold for all that talent.

Ditto although depending on who that friend is... Kocka, Merc, yourself... even then I much prefer Platinum with just us two.

Yea they are actually.  At worst there's some scrub making excuses.  At best some newbie asks questions and learns.

life is too short and I have too many other games I'd rather be playing than to waste my time with pugs

Why do you want to hear people talking over a video game????? It's perfectly reasonable to expect people to be chatty in real life, face to face...but why on earth would you expect people to be having conversations while playing an online game? I really don't get it.

You don't need 'friends'. Screw friends. The only thing you need is skill. If you're good at the game and can comfortably and easily solo platinum, then you'll find a lot of enjoyment playing the game. You'd be able to play by yourself (or with useless pugs) on the highest difficulty setting. So I really don't understand why you would need 'friends' or why you would want to talk to people while playing.

I miss the era of single player gaming where everyone used to play on their own doing their own thing. Now we're in the era of online gaming where people like to chat with the other players that they're playing with...I've always found that really creepy.

Mass Effect 3 is an easy enough game that you can play by yourself. Even if you can't solo platinum, you can easily solo gold or play by yourself. You always have that option. 'Friends' are a crutch...the best way to improve is to play platinum with noobs who end up with a combined score of 50k at the end of a platinum game. You only have yourself to rely on, don't expect any help from anyone, eventually you won't need it, that's how you get better at the game.
