It seems extremely obvious, and logical, to me that they gave up on it and won't do the re work they said they would do. They know the reputation of the book is beyound abysmal and spending money on a re write on a book no one will buy isn't going to happen.
I think they're just going to let it die forever and try to avoid the subject as much as possible.
The problem with that ? It's not because you don't talk about it that it doesn't exist.
Deception did happen and will stain all future Mass Effect products outside the main franchise.

I might actualy buy it if they fix it up a little.

Though you're probably right from a bussines perspective.

The book itself likely wouldn't make enough money, though it might be good for the IP to fix this disgrace of a release. I havn't read it but it sounds like it had some serious issues. Among them sticking to well established lore.

On the otherhand it's just a side product.

If the fixed version is just sitting on a hard drive then why not release it as an eBook. Cheaper than a print run and they'd generate some good-will among fans.

In short, money and copyright issues.

It's likely there a pre-established contract with the publisher that requires them to publish it through them. Given the dismal sales of the first run, I'm assuming the publisher would make Bioware front the cost to reissue it. While not as much as an actual printing, I'm sure that wouldn't be cheap.

Also, there would be the issue of the person that did the corrections, as even if only the major issues were corrected, that would be a rather large rewrite. Hence, they would now be a co-author, requiring addition contracts and negotions, especially since it is likely said person no longer works for the company. Hence, more money.

So, I'm going to guess that unless a sympathic employee "accidently" releases it through unoffical channels, it's never going to see the light of day.
