this key controls 4 I repeat FOUR functions in this game.

sprinting
resurrecting
taking cover
dodging

this is ridiculous. I understand that it had to fit on the console but no reason to not split it on pc. mass effect has the worst controls of any game I've ever played because of this which sucks, because it has amazing gameplay otherwise. 

(sidenote - who had the brilliant idea to make us burn our space keys to live longer in multiplayer?)

It is possible to split these on PC by editing the key bindings in coalesced.

Use in my game is assigned to T, for instance.

before i cared to change it my favorite was getting stuck next to phantoms because instead of running away i would get stuck in the revive nearby downed player animation

I use Shift and E. Spacebar is for the power menu, just like in ME1.

It is possible to split these on PC by editing the key bindings in coalesced.

But that would be cheating since it gives you a clear advantage at the game (e.g. Not getting stuck in the wrong cover all the time and dying), much like an aimbot.

I actually like the spacebar where it is multifunctional... I find it more efficient: when you are sprinting, you are likely looking for cover, so it makes sense to hold the spacebar while sprinting till you find some cover and the cover sort of takes you in automatically (or tap the bar quickly to vault over an obstacle), which is great. I find it difficult when functions are divided all over the keyboard (okay I exaggerate) like crouching and jumping, they are so silly and so easy to make mistakes during intense battles when you are frantically clicking the wrong buttons

I don't do combat rolls much and I am not sure what you mean by resurrecting

Those two things are not remotely the same, and Bioware didn't think they were either which is why they allowed editing key bindings in MP.
