Adding the dalish to the mix wouldnt take away from the stress of the mage templar war, if anything it would make it worse, you never know if some mages take refuge in some dalish clans forcing templars to raid dalish clans leading to another faction joing the chaosZack_Nero wrote...
I don't think so, in DA:O (for my playthrough at least) the Dalish are given Ostagar as there own land. And tense between them and the humans aren't as bad as many would think. I think more of the tense would be focused on the Mages and Templars, and after them the Qunari for sure.

The Dales are right in the middle of all of the chaos so maybe the inquisitor (specifically a dalish one) can spark that fire
Well we don't know if the Inquisitor could be a dalish, we know the he/she could be elf but I don't think it was stated as a dalish elf.

Empress Celene of Orlais rose to the throne of the most powerful nation in Thedas through wisdom, wit, and ruthless manipulation. Now, the empire she has guided into an age of enlightenment is threatened from within by imminent war between the templars and the mages, even as rebellion stirs among the downtrodden elves. To save Orlais, Celene must keep her hold on the throne by any means necessary.
Fighting with the legendary skill of the Orlesian Chevaliers, Grand Duke Gaspard has won countless battles for the empire and the empress. But has he fought in vain? As the Circle fails and chaos looms, Gaspard begins to doubt that Celene’s diplomatic approach to the mage problem or the elven uprisings will keep the empire safe. Perhaps it is time for a new leader, one who lives by the tenets of the Chevalier’s Code, to make Orlais strong again.
Briala has been Celene’s handmaid since the two of them were children, subtly using her position to help improve the lives of elves across Orlais. She is Celene’s confidante, spymaster, and lover, but when politics force the empress to choose between the rights of Briala’s people and the Orlesian throne, Briala must in turn decide where her true loyalties lie.
Alliances are forged and promises broken as Celene and Gaspard battle for the throne of Orlais. But in the end, the elves who hide in the forests or starve in the alienages may decide the fate of the masked empire.

On the contrary, I think based on the synopsis of the upcoming Masked Empire novel the elves are going to play a significant role. It'll be interesting to see where they're at after the novel.

Ah... interesting. I hadn't noticed that part of the novel's description before.

To be more specific, the Elven Mage is a member of the Dalish. I think that means a warrior/rogue elf will be a City Elf then.Zack_Nero wrote...

Not to mention my Inquisition will likely put them down hard unless they can offer my Inquisitor a better deal than Orlais (unlikely)

Their human overlords are occupied in a massive power struggle across the continent, now's a good time to rise up and try to seize more power and rights for themselves too.

Dalish are all "oh lets do some LARPING about how our ancestors suppposed to live and roleplay that we hate the humans despite never doing **** to change the situation"
Seriously , in-game dalish are quite passive, they could do some fine guerrilla tactics with those ships and halla of theirs but they dont, they just sit in their woods, roleplaying about the dales and "muh heritage"

I think it was stated that the dalish are waiting for the right time to strike. I am sure they don't wanna take control of the rest of Thedas, just reclaim arlathan forest in the outskirts of orlais.
With the chantrys military in shambles and also the fact that the many of the rulers of thedas are more liberal: Celene, the Divine, Alistair then I am sure they'll fine for a while.
Though I'd love to see more badass dalish clans. The ones we've seen are all these xenophobic peace loving hippies that end up getting themselves massacred by the same people they were leery of joining them
