Fen'harel is a god of chaos, isn't he? Sounds like the prime suspect for instigating rebellions and civil unrest across the continent right before a major supernatural disaster.

I saw the end coming from a mile away. The heartbreaking thing in these book is getting old, predictable, and incredibly annoying IMO.

One thing I liked was how ...gray the book was. Gespard(?) was a friendly, honorable, funny and badass man who started a civil war to crush down on the elves and wage expansionistic wars of aggression.

 

I never really got that the dread wolf was the entity at the end (even if it is obvious now), kinda figured it was Morrigan (she was interested the the mirrors, right?).

 

I'm also going to call Ser Michel as a future companion.

Roughly during the same time as Asunder. The mage rebellion (as such) isn't really mentioned at all, except as a background to the situation in Orlais.

 

We know they happen simultaneously because the parts in Asunder where everyone wonders about Gaspard and Celene's whereabouts make up a fair proportion of this novel.

I thought it was ambiguous whether he was actually Fen'Harel - all those stories were suggestive, and then Ishmael implied that Falassan had also lived for centuries watching humans.

But it would be weird if a god could be killed, as such.

And regarding the person at the end, I *definitely* didn't think that was Morrigan. It sounded way more like it was one of the elven goddesses.

For those of you who have read the book, would you recommend I read it?

 

Definitely.

 

It's a very entertaining read, even apart from the interesting things it does to expand the DA lore and set up the conflicts we'll be seeing in Inquisition. The pacing is pretty excellent and Weekes does some nice things with character motivations changing as a result of new information. 

 

(There are also some great twists.)

About the dagger Celene used, did many of you forget that Sandal has been given a position with Celene at her court at the end of DA2.  So, this is more likely a Sandal enchantment dagger perhaps?

 

I'm not sure if people have answered this already, but:

Celene is not a mage, the flames come from an enchanted ring given to her by a noble patron.

(The ring was originally owned by the Black Fox, who actually shows up in some codex entries from Origins/DA2)

The possible antagonists are Imshael, one of the Forbidden Ones, the demons that supposedly taught humans blood magic.

 

 

The second is more of a guess based on who Felassan's boss is. The signs are pointing to Fen'Harel.

I totally didn't realise that about Imshael. I know the book said he wasn't a normal demon, but I didn't realise he was something else entirely.

If Fen'Harel is real (and not an incorrect assumption on our part or a being of the fade just taking up his identity), that certainly adds something significant to teh theories about the creators, the make, the old gods and the nature of the darkspawn. This is awesome news!

Yes. I'd be quite surprised if the book did actually suggest that the elven gods were real, given how reluctant DA has been to confirm or deny the existence of the Maker. Didn't someone say in Origins that all the elven gods were silent, or had stopped talking to them?
