Patrick does some wonderful things with character development, I can only hope the characters are as multifaceted in the game.

Anyway, I'm not really sure how I feel about Celene at this point. On one hand, she seems to earnestly desire for Orlais to become a better place for the elves and the lower classes in general. On the other, she had Briala's parent's murdered to garner sympathy for her claim to the throne...

I still don't like Gaspard, but even he has some honorability.

I'm guessing we'll be visiting that Eluvian place in Inquisition. Briala's in too important a spot for it not to happen. I have to wonder how much this might be related to all the elven Inquisitor's being Dalish. Given Briala's attitude toward them, nobody's getting a free pass because of their race with her.

Anyway, as to who Felassen's boss is. I can only speculate that its likely the very same villain that will be our adversary in Inqusition. As to who precisely that is, it very well could be the Dread Wolf himself for all I know. Seriously, it could be. Alternatively, it could be Morrigan. She's certainly manipulative enough. I somehow don't see Flemeth employing a lackey, but maybe. Of course, I'm not convinced Felassen's wasn't an abomination himself.

Anyone else think Michel may turn up as a companion?

I was heartbroken when Felassen died. He was a joy. Although, hey, who knows. He's not really an elf, so maybe he's not really dead.

And I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Gaspard. And Michel. And everyone! Everyone was wonderful! So many great characters. Dang.

Only in my wildest dreams. What an upright guy. And the bit at the end, where he dedicates his life to hunting down Imshael? I didn't expect that at all. Odds seem good we'll cross paths with him, at least.

I was surprised by how little mention or hinting their was at the events of Asunder. Do the two novels occur somewhat concurrently or no?

And where do you want to bet Sera is from? Halamshiral? Val Royeux slums? AHHH, elves. Let me hug all the elves.

They happen pretty close together, as early in the novel, Celene was plotting that party for the Divine that was in Asunder

I believe Masked Empire and Asunder are roughly set over the same time period. 

 

They seem to show different facets of the same few months leading up to the start of Inquisition, really.

Clearly the civil war hasn't progressed all that much in Asunder, if it even started, and the rumours of Celene's whereabouts seem consistent with her disappearance into the eluvian network, or perhaps the initial period afterwards where she gathers forces in Halamshiral or the Winter Palace

 

As for Sera,

I always thought she was from Val Royeaux, given that it's the largest city in Orlais. Also, the Halamshiral thieves and rogues were sorta... crushed. But hard to tell at this point.

Michel seems poised for a "its a lifelong quest, but lo, here comes the Inquisitor to help me fix it in a few hours" sidequest. Besides, I think they're setting it up so we encounter one of the Forbidden Ones per game (Gaxkang in DA:O and Xebenkeck in DA2), so we'll probably cross paths whether he's a companion or not.

Sera could very well be from Halamshiral. I could see the Inquisitor taking in an elven rebel, or rather a survivor of the rebellion. Could make for some interesting companion quests.

There she was, slaving over one broken-down mirror and, in my play through, killing her entire tribe. Only it turns out eluvians aren't so rare at all. In fact, they seem almost common.

I am just sitting here stunned and effing thrilled! It was so fantastic. I basically didn't stop reading it from start to finish. Now, I want to see these people in the games. I want my Inquisitor to meet them. I want another book, because it was just that good.
