The wiki seems to indicate that Leliana is a character in the book. Whats her role, if shes even in the book? Edit: Oh nevermind, thats been updated on her page. lol That was quick.
I am just sitting here stunned and effing thrilled! It was so fantastic. I basically didn't stop reading it from start to finish. Now, I want to see these people in the games. I want my Inquisitor to meet them. I want another book, because it was just that good.
Delicious, delicious angst. I could probably write an essay about every single thing I enjoyed about the story. All the characters! So complex and interesting. No one was boring. All the little details. All the new information. All the background.
So good. So very, very good.
I particularly liked how the book constantly subverted out expectations for the characters - the early chapters seemed to assign Celene and Gaspard trope-y archetypes that, as it turns out, weren't true at all. Both characters were absolutely believable in their motivations and actions, and that's such a rare thing to get right. It's a really nice experience when the story constantly forces you to reevaluate your sympathies as a reader.

Liking it so far but I'm getting annoyed by all the "Elves were as morally complex before humanity as all the nations in Thedas are now, therefor they should be wiped out." posts I've been seeing across the internet.
I dunno when I'm going to manage to get this but what I would like to know is 1) how does this stack up to Asunder and 2) how does it stack up to fantasy books in general?
Only a few pages in. Impressive intro scene. Writing that makes places and people come to life. Very good. Also: I want to see those places on my screen, pronto!
@Fredward:
If things go on like the first chapter, this will be the second book based on a video game in thirty years I feel I don't need to hide (after "Asunder") as a guilty pleasure. There's some awkwardness when dealing with game events but that's likely inevitable. Generally, I think Weekes writes more fluently and naturally than Gaider, the drastically improved writing of Asunder compared to the earlier books notwithstanding.

Imo:
1/ better than Asunder. Though I think Asunder is darker, and more ... fantasy. TME is more realistic since the story surround normal, mortal, and non mage characters (with some exception of course) and how they deal with politics, betrayal, racism etc... Overall, I feel "real", sort of like reading a historical fiction, as oppose to Asunder which focus on mage templar conflict and thus heavily fantasized.
2/ One of the best fantasy books I've read in years. Maybe I haven't really read that many but man, this one is GOOOOOOOOD.
p/s: I'm regretting reading it too soon though
Now I'm dying to play DA:I
The wait once again become unbearable T__T Also I really hope we can meet Celene in DA:I. I'm somewhat fascinated by her character after finishing this book

So, just got it yesterday and read through the first chapter.
Mixed feelings. I like it because it's well-written. I hate it because it's just reinforcing my general disdain and disgust with the entire country and this stupid, silly Game and mask thing they play (which also means it's well-written since I am certainly not ambivalent).
I'm... really hoping to find at least one character that I will like. Just one Orlesian that isn't insufferable in some way. Is there any hope for me or will I just slide further and further over to Loghain's side of the bench as I progress through the book?
Ugh. I'm looking forward to playing DA:I but I'm also fearing it becoming a chore not to want to murderknife all the Orlesian nobles. And I'm not a generally murderknifey sort of game player. But considering even the servants play the Game... ugh. ![]()
There are honourable Orlesians, yes.
Michel is not too bad. Really liked him at the finish.

THANK YOU
Just finding one honorable one that's not obnoxious in some way is really all I want at this point. Didn't want the whole country to be... so one-dimensional like that.
Yay, I have hope!
