Gaspard will likely die in my canon playthrough. And I kind of wish the Human PC is Fereldan at this point.
I so agree with this statement!

Hmm, I am neutral on this matter. My Cousland wouldn't have been, but I am not playing her in DA:I. Would probably try a rather detached and non-ethnocentric character for my first playthrough.

As do I.
The ironic thing is that Empress Celine is trying to change all of that. The nobility is kicking and screaming that entire way.
The New Monarchies were a fun historical trope while they lasted.
Seems there's an error in the OP's quote. "But as the Circle fails and chaos looms, Gaspard begins to doubt that Celene’s diplomatic approach Orlais’ problems will keep the empire safe." Hope that isn't directly from the back of the cover, and if it is, has been corrected before the book's release, amongst other potential mistakes.
1. It's not Medieval times.
2.Burning your empires forces out and making everyone your enemy is not the way to go. Not with radon blights and the qunari on there way.
3. His nature in politics always cause to fall of empires.
Sort of reinforces my disgust of Orlais and Orlesians in general - the nobility, at least.
Loghain was so very, very right about them.
Loghain no better than them. He was slave trader.

As much as I hate him for doing it. He only did it because he was desperate for funds to fight his 2 sided war.

Gaspard has his reasons too. I am impatient to read his chapters.

Nope. He's just being an arrogant aristocratic dick who thinks he's better then everyone else.

Of cource he think he is better than the others. He can't be humble. He is alpha man as general have to be. He is nature born leader, just like Loghain and another rulers. And yes- rulers aren't pleasant people. Tywin Lannister as an example.
That reminds me about girls who "want to marry humbe millionaire". You really don't know what do you want from character.

Then it probably would've been better to prevent the darkspawn from killing off his tax base.
Loghain and Gaspard both think that they know best than everyone how their country should be governed. I think their lack of humility prevent them to see other solutions to some problems they could resolve more efficiently with a more cooperative attitude.
I think that the goal of Loghain was to protect Ferelden at all cost while Gaspard is supposedly trying to bring Orlais at a supperior level.
Anyone know by chance whether it's possible to get e-copy of the book and use it on something other than kindle-nook? Are there any regional restrictions?
ladyofpayne - where did you get this fragment from?! They say Publication Date is April 8.

I saw it in Amazon. But you can see it at macmillan page
what is most profitable for Orlais : enslave Ferelden
Enslave.

If only his tax base would not throw himself recklessly into the dark spawn. You do know your argument far from works in the landsmeet, right?
Enslave.
Not with Navarra at their back and the fear of the Qunari. Celine make a point that the empire will be far stong with fereldin as an allie and invading it now would be an act of misguided pride.

Ferelden is weak after the Blight. Nevarra is small too. Quinari is far away. It also will demonstate the power and strenght of Orlais. You know during Great Depression Mountain of Amrican's presiden was built.

Nevarra is as powerful as Orlais according to World-of-Thedas (well WoT says that people in-setting believes that). Orlais lost their last war against them...

Navarra is far from too small. These are dragon slayers by nature. And Orlias is at this moment in a dispute with them over land. Ferelden my be weaken by the blight but at the same time they are harden by the blight.
Navarra is strong enough to hold against any move meant of Orlias. The have beat them in wars before. If they go to Ferelden they open their back to Navarra and if Ferelden get Navarra to help them Orlias is screwed.
