I'm at 994 games played now.
It seems so long ago yet I remeber vividly that first mission on Firebase White where I died many times, and at the end one of my teamates had to scream over the mic "Get in the circle."
And then I did Bronze for months. Never ventured beyond, never did well enough to even think about venturing to Silver.
But then I got more cards, began to experiment with more characters, and more weapons were coming my way. Then I found this website, and learned simple stuff like people don't like Juggy putting the shield in a doorway, or rage quitting was even  a thing.
And after 6 months, with heart beating on speed mode, I tried a silver match. I liked it.
I did another, and another. Then one day I was the last guy standing to save the mission 3 times, on Silver. All of a sudden I knew what everyone was talking about when they said they carried the match.
A little confident then I tried Gold. And I felt that excitement again like I felt on that very first Firebase White mission. And for months I did lots of Silver in order to get the good consumables so I could play Gold. I was embassarred to show up to a Gold match with any consumable below level III.
And I don't remeber when or how, but now I find myself only playing Gold whenever I pick up the controler.
I took a vacation to play GTA V because I got it for Christmas, and it was fun.... for a while. But I kept wanting to come back and play ME3.

SO....

I played Platinum once, I hosted just so my Juggy could siege pulse with reckless abandon and maybe survive. And yeah, that blew my mind.
Blew me away in an unhappy way as compared to my first Silver or Gold attempts.
So here I am, N7 689, and that's almost a lie because I've almost done all that promoting just on my Juggy, Awakened Collector, and Human Vanguard, who was my favorite back at the start. I just got my Hardcore banner.

I don't want to be "That guy" that brings down the team on Platinum.

When did you guys know you were ready to be a viable Platinum player? Not a noob being a dork above their means, or even a serious player experimenting beyond their experience. When did you find yourself a real solid Platinum soldier?

Idk, I was forced into Platinum very early by Spectres. Moby, Grim and Choky. but I guess it was when I did my first Gold solo with the N7 Fury that I was ready for Platinum, even if it did take an hour. lol

I found myself to be a solid Platinum player after my Platinum solo.

Only after you have claimed the head of Galtross the World Eater and brought it to the peak of Mt. Hynderian to be used as tribute for the ritual.

Every difficulty has a learning curve. Most of us can't be expected to just waltz into Plat and topscore the first few times.

My tip for you OP would be to lose the Juggy for Plat and go in with the TGI who has incredible survivability but with good mobility so you can get out of tricky situations. You can't be a liability with that kit. And don't run off. Stick with another teammate as Plat is all about high DPS and 2 guns aimed at a Praetorian are better than one. When you feel confident with the TGI, in that you learned which enemies spawn, what to take out first, etc. just move to another kit. Destroyer is great as well to start with.

And lastly, friends. Friends who are solid players make the pressure go away as you know they have your back so you can relax and just do your thing. Plus, friends talk. Most people, at least on PC, don't and it always helps to have someone say, Praetorian coming in from the right or hey, there's a phantom behind you. :)

It didn't take me long to leave bronze, but I was nervous about the transition from silver to gold. Didn't start reading BSN until sometime after I had mastered the Gold PUG life.

My advice: mute your audio. It really is not mandatory to survival, but you will learn how to predict the AI to a much finer degree than anything else in this game. I spent most of my time on Xbox (400 or so hours) playing on a PC monitor with no speakers. Nothing ever caught me off guard.

The intuition gained is invaluable.

When you are good with TSent, TSol or Destroyer and is able to solo with them you are platinum level player. All other kits are for scurbs who shouldn't go further than gold with a good team.

When you find some competent friends to play it with .. skilled teammates are OP.

Just tonight I was in a good PUG Gold group that switched it to Platinum ...

Edit: What platform are you on?

i played it when it first came out but only because i had a couple of friends on my list. never tried pugging platinum, until one day i was trying out some weapons and came across the CSR and was amazed at how good it was.
put it on my SI and did my first platinum pug, reapers on rio went pretty well and since then i've been playing platinum 99% of the time.

if i was to give my opinion on when the average player is ready to play platinum i would say when they max out their rares.

When you collect 139,377 brown rocks, kill Ug-Thak - Lord of the skags, pilfer the lost staff of mount shuler, defeat the Destroyer of Worlds... Whilst dancing!

Only then will you be ready.

It depends.

First of all, it has nothing to do with hours played or games played, don't even look at those stats.

If you ONLY plan on playing platinum with decent teammates/friends, then you should be able to get into it pretty early on. If you can survive reasonably well on gold and put up a decent score, you should be absolutely to try out platinum. If you know you can be cautious and not get downed too many times, that's the trick. All of this only applies if you play with decent, reliable teammates. Even better if you're comfortable playing with lots of different characters. Platinum can be very easy with a good team, they can help you and you can help them as well.

If you're planning on playing platinum with random pugs: you MUST be able to comfortably solo platinum. Nine times out of ten, you will be the ONLY person who is killing the enemies while the rest of your teammates either bleed out at the start of each wave or simply just leech you the entire game, and the game will invariably end when you die, don't expect any revives, don't expect anyone to help you with any of the objectives. So, if you aren't able to comfortably solo platinum with ease, don't bother playing with random pugs, it's not worth it, too much effort and frustration with very little enjoyment. If you aren't able to play platinum by yourself with nobody else to help or to rely on, then either stick to playing gold, or find some decent teammates to play platinum with.

That's just the nature of platinum. Gold is really easy to solo and play by yourself. But platinum is different, I certainly can't solo it comfortably with any character.

Plat pug aint the same as plat with friends. That said I think being ready for plat with friends is not the same as being able to carry a team of bad pugs through some plat.

I guess you just have to learn by expirience through playing. No one can just transcend to plat and expect to rule it from the start. Each diff has its own learning curve and its ritham. Once you get that it becomes gold with a few more bosses.

I still am not ready for Platinum. I've been dragged kicking and screaming (good thing I don't have a mic) by those on my FL. I like the variety of mixed enemies and credits, of course, but it's basically just a dps boss fest. I have more fun derping around in Bronze/Silver/Gold.

Don't worry about being "that" guy.

Fully equip consumables, don't be afraid to use your gel, missiles, and op packs. Stick with the team and cover their flank.

As long as you try and help the team, you'll be fine.

A combination of jokerlobo, and XFG-65's comments about covers things. My experience of platinum PUGs is not pretty, and generally consists of players trying to run before they can walk. As a result I tend to only play platinum if I have a couple of friends in the lobby. It makes things go a lot smoother, especially if everyone has mics.

Depends on who you ask. To summarise:

If you ask someone sensible: Once you feel comfortable on Gold.
If you ask someone on PC: Once you manifest hack. Also weapon stat modding.
If you ask Annomander: Real men play Insanity.
If you ask Megabeast: Once you start 6/6/6/6/6ing and have an Acolyte.
If you ask PuG A: Once you are N7 27
If you ask PuG B: Once you unlock the Adas and the Acolyte.
If you ask Lakook: Once your N7 is over 9000
If you ask Cain or Discipru: Once your friendly enough with them that they will carry you through Thunderdome.

When you can play any kit on Gold worry free with a team of below average randoms.

When you can literally take a kit and weapon that you've never used before and go into a Gold game and get through it, you have what it takes to play Platinum.

First order of business is to get away from that Juggernaut.

When you can kill fast enough with your gun and survive in the meantime. TBH plat is not much different than gold waves 8-10 just factions are a bit mixed up. So basically the same test applies as in case of silver to gold. Can you contribute to gold waves 8-10 meaningfully and staying alive? Also, as others said friends help a lot.

This.

Also, when you are comfortable enough in Gold to consistently PuG it successfully, you're probably ready for Platinum. Mainly, it's up to you to decide, though, based on your own comfort.
