Naturally, everybody will assume that a game has to play like Call of Duty when it's an FPS. Not the case. At all.

I wouldn't wish for the trilogy to be made as an FPS. However, I'd love to see a spin-off, perhaps made by a developer more proficient with the genre, to make an FPS-specific Mass Effect game.

I'd also love to see an RTS set within the Mass Effect universe. Fortunately, "Dawn of the Reapers" and "Mass Effect Reborn" are taking care of those desires for me. Very nice indeed.

Well... Technically, you have a shooter in the form of the multiplayer option in ME3, since the amount of roleplaying is zero, and all you do is running around shooting things.

When it comes to spin-offs then, in order to not deviate too much from the original, some elements need to be preserved for it to feel ok. As an example, Fallout Tactics took the Fallout combat system and turned into a tactical combat game with really miniscule RPG elements, but they were swtill there, reminding the people that "this is Fallout". The game itself could have been better but it did take place in the original game universe.

No. We have more than enough mindless fps around there, most of the people choose this game due to the story and the rpg components.

they were already working on this and it became the multiplayer for me3. a channel i subscribe to on youtube announced they will be doing a video of this showing the inherent differences. Looking forward to. if anyone is interested here is their last video they posted about the next mass effect. you can see on their discussion board where they plan to do so.

It would make a great FPS if Dice would do it.

A gameplay close to Bioshock let's say you use R1 to open fire and R2 for biotic or technology powers, with a superb multiplayer similar to Battlefield, a lot of players, big maps, vehicules (can pilot a Kodiak, a Mako, an Atlas etc).

Battlefield is getting old, a Mass Effect FPS would be some fresh air.

The question should be asked differently:

"Do you believe RPGs would work as a FPS?"

Maybe when hell freezes over

Bioware could easily make a FPS in ME setting with PVP. Spin-off with entirely different heroes and timeline. Why not?

It doesn't have to be a RPG, just a good FPS with a lot of lore and action and a great multiplayer.

Halo Wars isn't an action game or a FPS and it's a good game. This is the purpose of spin offs, being different.

I hope BW doesn't do it, at least for now, I'd loose the little hope I still have to play this great game again.
On the other hand it would be good as I could move on

The only thing different would be the perspective. Somehow, that makes it equal to CoD.

I didn't say Bioware should do it but Dice, Respawn or maybe Visceral Games. Bioware never did a FPS before so EA should give a game like that to a specialist.

Nope mass effect to me was more rpg than shooter thing, I can't even think of it as a shooter. In all 3 games I always set the difficulty of the "action" or "shooter time" to easy because I didn't care about shooting random bad guys. This game is all about the story not shooting things.

Personally I think it should be a side scroller like Double Dragon.

Definitely possible.

However I agree, there are soooo many FPS, I'd just as soon keep ME as an RPG type game as I love the stories, interactions, and choices.

This thread makes me sad.

And scared. Don't give Bioware any bad ideas!

Yes. ME3 was pretty much a straight up TPS with some RPG elements here and there. Mass Effect could definitely work as a FPS. Although no scifi shooter will ever touch Halo, Mass Effect would be pretty good tho.

With that being said.....

Mass Effect should probably stay as a Third person shooter RPG Hybrid.

But I think a FPS set in the MEU would be kinda cool.

It's fine, they're probably not paying attention anyway.

I know I wouldn't at this point.

FPS? Heresy. That has the words "first person" in it. How am I supposed to see how fabulous my character looks?

you know a mass effect spin off using the oculus rift would be cool if done right.

What if... hear me out, guys... what if, you know, you could switch between First Person and Third Person perspectives at any point in the game like, say, Fallout New Vegas or Skyrim?

Would that REALLY be so bad?

A short answer, no.

Some games work as FPS. Call of Duty, Battlefield... games where the depth of the game doesn't matter. I prefer Third-Person games, especially with things like Mass Effect where it's better to see ALL of the things around you, and all the details, rather than just seeing a tiny part of it with weird-angled hands and no feet.
